A ghost story is spreading across campus.
The school has forbidden students from entering or leaving after 7 p.m. But rumor has it that—
If someone turns on the lights floor by floor in an empty teaching building, they’ll hear the circuit breaker snap.
When the lights that went out begin to flicker again, don’t move.
That’s when the “Never-Seen Patroller” appears and takes away any student who dares to linger.
To uncover the truth behind this chilling mystery, five members of the school’s band club sneak into the First Arts Building…

Night Patrol Rules is a free-to-play supernatural visual novel developed and published by Te.Sa that successfully combines mystery, suspense, and character-driven storytelling into an engaging narrative experience. Although it draws inspiration from the virtual idol group PLAVE, the game stands firmly on its own with an original plot that requires no prior knowledge of the source material. Instead of relying on fan appeal alone, it creates a chilling school mystery filled with unexplained events, urban legends, and supernatural encounters that gradually unfold as players explore its carefully crafted world. The result is a surprisingly polished adventure that emphasizes atmosphere and storytelling over flashy mechanics. The story centers on an abandoned arts building where students are warned never to remain after seven o'clock in the evening. According to local rumors, restoring electricity to the building awakens a mysterious figure known as the Never-Seen Patroller, a silent entity connected to the disappearances of anyone unfortunate enough to cross its path. This unsettling premise immediately establishes an eerie tone that remains consistent throughout the adventure. Rather than overwhelming players with constant scares, the game slowly builds tension through unsettling discoveries, cryptic clues, and an ever-present sense that something dangerous is watching from the shadows. The mystery develops naturally, encouraging curiosity while steadily revealing deeper layers of the building's disturbing history. One of the game's greatest strengths lies in its narrative structure. Instead of following only one protagonist, players experience the investigation through the perspectives of five different members of the school's band club. Each character contributes unique observations, personalities, and emotional responses, making the overall story feel richer and more dynamic. The shifting viewpoints prevent the narrative from becoming repetitive while allowing different pieces of the mystery to emerge from multiple angles. Player decisions influence conversations, discoveries, and the eventual outcome, with multiple endings rewarding those who revisit the story to explore different choices. Hidden collectibles and optional lore entries further expand the world, giving dedicated players additional reasons to investigate every corner of the haunted building. Visually, Night Patrol Rules delivers presentation quality that exceeds expectations for a free title. Its anime-inspired artwork is expressive and detailed, while subtle character animations help conversations feel more alive without distracting from the narrative. The abandoned school environments effectively reinforce the game's unsettling atmosphere, balancing ordinary classrooms with increasingly ominous locations as the mystery progresses. Audio design also deserves praise, using ambient sounds and carefully placed musical cues to heighten suspense throughout exploration. Instead of relying on loud jump scares, the game uses silence, environmental effects, and mood to create psychological tension that lingers well beyond individual scenes. Gameplay remains focused primarily on reading, exploration, and decision-making rather than action or complex puzzle-solving. Players searching for fast-paced horror may find the experience deliberately slow, but that pacing benefits the story by allowing characters and mysteries to develop naturally. The currently available content serves as a prologue lasting several hours, introducing the cast and establishing the larger supernatural conflict while leaving enough unanswered questions to generate anticipation for future chapters. Although some players may wish for a complete story immediately, the available content feels substantial enough to justify the investment, especially considering the game's free-to-play nature. Night Patrol Rules succeeds because it understands exactly what kind of experience it wants to deliver. Instead of chasing traditional survival horror mechanics, it focuses on immersive storytelling, memorable characters, and a steadily escalating supernatural mystery that rewards patience and careful observation. Its polished presentation, branching narrative, atmospheric world-building, and thoughtful use of multiple perspectives create an experience that stands above many independent visual novels in the same genre. Whether approached by fans of PLAVE or by players simply looking for an intriguing paranormal adventure, the game offers an engaging opening chapter that leaves a strong impression and builds excitement for what comes next. Rating: 9/10
