My two cents on New York Bus Sim and New York Taxi Sim both released at the same time, by the same devs. My immediate thought was because of the price. Their intent was to make a couple ♥♥♥♥ simulators and that's exactly what they did. Any publicity, is good publicity right? Not really, but good job. As far as the games go, it's open and shut. They are pure garbage, Controls are terrible, UI was done by a 12-year-old. The city or "New York" is clearly European. Same goes for the cars/assets and the THUMBNAIL doesn't even match you GAME NAME! Don't just take my word for it, give it a watch. Thanks! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q89nrLT7JBk
Great game if it was 2002, but not worth the electricity it cost for me to download. Especially not worth $5. No money system, just a level system, and the "reviews" customers give you when you get them to their destination seems random. I delivered a passenger safely and they asked if I got my license in a box of cereal. Irritated, I took another fare and did everything I could to break my car. No damage physics, and the customer told me (after over a dozen collisions) that I was a taxi driving pro. Thanks for stroking my ego.
New York Taxi Simulator takes place in a world that does not resemble New York in the slightest, where nothing is simulated because there are no penalties, collision does not exist on all objects, vehicles suffer no ill effect for slamming into one another, or buildings, or anything which is solid, and to top it all off, there's a weird effect where a siren is baked into the music randomly that made me think my lone taxi fare of carnage was going to attract a penalty. It didn't. I got a customer to his destination with 40 seconds to spare after driving the wrong way down identical* streets for about 3 minutes, sometimes on the sidewalk, sometimes through pedestrians (of whom I saw a total of TWO, and aimed for to see what happened - they are ghosts is what), and was told that I was a 4/5 star driver, and very professional. I drove him to his stop like this game is 4/5 stars: only in its fever-dream world. * If you told me this game's streets were procedurally generated, I'd believe you.
"Realistisch simulierter Verkehr". Das ist wohl der größte Witz. Was ist das tolle an New York? Das es keine Ampeln gibt natürlich. Keine einzige. Obviously I did not think this game would be great but I also did not expect that I would quit this game after 5 minutes. As expected, the only thing you do in the game is carry customers to their destination and try not to hit other cars or buildings. There's absolutely nothing positive to say about New York Taxi Simulation. First of all the game looks like it could have been released in 2001, which isn't a main problem for me but it's unacceptable for a game released in 2016. The city doesnt look anything like New York, there are only a few pedestrians and the controls are poorly optimised. In my 5 minute run, I also crashed my car and somehow I could not start it anymore which obviously made me quit this game and throw it in my hidden list.
1st attempt: crash on startup. verified 2nd: crashed, reinstalled 3-5th: crashed 6: started This is the best taxi driver simulator I've ever played: it perfectly captures the existential crises endemic to urban life. Welcome to a populous yet barren and surreal world. You pilot a shopping cart painted like a taxi cab with the inertia of a battleship along the hidden bumper-car lanes of urban development in a quest to gain the favour of silent invigilators ("fares"). Main features include: ghostly, collisionless pedestrians ("hey! I'm walkin' here!") and blind commuters, no soundtrack (just like IRL), constant brake screeching sound effects and more. I particularly liked the complete lack of roadsigns and constantly looping cars. My first actions as uber-auto-pilot were to try to drive through the park. Sadly this was not die hard 3 and an inivisible wall halted my progress with the sound of crumpling aluminium foil. Undeterred I picked up my first fare; my cab lurched into 5th gear and barreled down the generously wide lanes of NYC at 115kmh towards a green-dot, lurking like a spider, in the peripheral of my routeless GPS. After many false turns I arrived at my passengers "destiny" (according to the in-game help) and was paid in insults. I swore to improve and picked up a tourist who wanted to go to two different featureless street corners (maybe they were a corner-spotter). This time I tried to obey the speedlimit (which consists of tapping the up arrow every few seconds) and the few existing road markings (arrows on the lanes) and quickly found myself trapped in an infinite loop along with the other cars. My mind began to shut down as I crawled along the circuit of start-stop traffic. I longed for the glaring sun baking the tarmac to set so I could get out of the sweltering cockpit. I thought about my body-odour wafting around me as I stewed in my own juices on my beaded seat-cover and absently watched my ancient air-freshener dangling from the rear-view mirror. My eyes were dark pits. I had become a taxi driver. All that broke my immersion is the low pedestrian density and absence of constant horn honking. Thanks very much luckz also maybe i should add: the city is not laid-out in a city grid style, one way lanes shouldn't merge into each other and the map is sometimes mis-aligned with the actual road locations. the hud consists only of an oversized clock, a speed indicator, the previously mentioned routeless gps, an xp style bar, and a big "pedestrian' outline to indicate when you have a fare (seems redundant given the timer). conspicuously absent is any sort of metric for tracking infractions or score
Would not play if it were free (I got it in a joke game bundle that includes Bad Rats), would not play if they paid me to. Can't change the graphics resolution, the 3D engine is very rudimentary and has severe texture artifacts. The handling is terrible, which has a lot to do with the fact that the controls are limited to the keyboard. You're always making a hard turn, flooring it, and braking hard. New York City in no shape or form. The block layouts are not modeled on the actual street layout, the buildings aren't tall enough, and there are certainly not enough pedestrians or traffic lights, even if it were modeled on less dense areas of NYC like Ozone Park. It's "NYC" because it's all on a perfect 90-degree angled grid which is basically Midtown only. It also makes no sense that there's a literal red wall marking the boundaries. Manhattan is an island; they could have simply closed off approaches to bridges and tunnels. You could forgive that and the graphics and other things, but with the poor controls it's completely unenjoyable. It is, in fact, unfairly frustrating.

Boring Taxi. Story: This game has no story. Graphics: New York is quite often a very interesting location to set a video game in, from Spider Man to The Division it's a highly iconic city that even if you haven't visited you know it's locales. The rendition of New York in New York Taxi Simulator is genuinely bafflingly bad. It's a bunch of generic looking buildings that are copy and pasted over and over and a giant "central park" in the middle of the map which is about the only notable location. It's an ugly looking game, with the same four car types driving around the city and no effort to recreate the city. Audio: The audio design is also absolutely terrible. There's no music whatsoever and the only audio you will hear is your engine constantly revving and terrible ambience of manholes being lifted and construction noises. It's also quite hilarious that they couldn't even loop it properly, it just abruptly ends, waits a couple seconds and restarts. The car sounds are also horrendous. There's four vehicles you can unlock and while they're all unique, they share one thing is that they sound nothing like real cars. One of the cars sounds like a motor bike and it's very clear that whenever you hit something they just used an explosion sound which is absurdly loud. Gameplay: New York Taxi Simulator is Crazy Taxi minus the crazy. You have three different missions to choose from, which includes a classic Point A to Point B, A tourist route through multiple destinations and a get to a location as fast as humanly possible. Your main goal is to make enough money to get different vehicles. It's a simple concept, so I was shocked on how much the developers managed to mess this game up. The driving feels incredibly stiff and unresponsive, the civilian AI drivers just do whatever they feel like, for example making turns even though and ram into you even though you clearly are in front of them. The missions also suck, anything that's not the timed missions suck and don't get you any progress towards the other vehicles. Each passengers gives you a star rating and the more stars you get the more progress you ear in your goal to get the other vehicles, but no matter how good you drive, the tourist and classic passengers will not give you more than three stars and I tried my best. Also you move so slowly. The car can barely build any momentum and it takes forever to get going. When you hit something or even just scrape it by barely touching something it will stop you dead in your tracks and make you stuck in place until you build up the momentum to start moving again. The car also does whatever it feels like, sometimes you can be driving down a straight road, not even pressing any buttons and the car will spin out which is just great. Verdict: New York Taxi Simulator is one of the worst driving games I have ever played in my entire life. It's absolutely tedious gameplay, mission design and the most unresponsive controls make this one painful journey to get through, so just skip this and play Crazy Taxi. Final Rating: 1/10 Pros: N/A Cons: - Some of the worst driving controls in any driving game ever - Whatever city this is, it's not New York - Horrible audio design - Most missions barely give you any rewards no matter how perfect you were If you liked this review please consider joining https://steamcommunity.com/groups/completingthebacklog
