Wish it wasn't part of the $1 bundle. Controls are unintuitive and it takes over 5 minutes to figure out the controls. Esc, esc quits game easily enough...
Since the early days I instantly fell in love with "Defender" and this very game here is a quite good rendition of it's ancestor. The retro vibe is really nice all around every feature of the game: the great chiptune music (only in menus though), sound effects (totally atari home console alike) and screen effects (all kinds of dot matrix and scanlines emulation). Sadly it has it flaws: first of all, you're stuck to analog controls, so you might be better off by using keyboard control setup and remapping it back to your joypad using some kind of tool. Second difficulty may be to high for new players of this genre especially on higher levels. But what still makes me wonder most, why the heck in some later levels my people just stop walking to the bases, so I could eventually exit the level. Maybe it's something I missed about the game mechanics, but at least it doesn't get explained during the very retro ingame infoscreen before you start the game. This game may not be perfect, but for a decent price I'd totally recommend it for retro enthusiasts like me. Too bad they stopped selling it. But if you manage to have it in your library already, and never did before, you should absolutely give this game a try, as there is always time for a short round of defender left in your life, you know ... ;)

Bad game 4/10
This game has issues with Windows 10. Must be run in Windows 8 compatability mode and without controller plugged in. My games just showed a black screen when my controller was plugged in. Starting the game without controller worked. But the gameplay wasnt much to cheer for. Fly with your ship right to left and shoot incoming invaders while your people on the ground scurry for safety. Do this over an over again and you have this game. Not for me.
It's a decently well executed take on Defender with a solid visual style... at first glance. It plays very slow and rewards spam as your projectiles have infinite range. The gameplay is overall quite easy and repetitive. There's also no music. A re-release with mechanical tweaks and more content would be nice to see.
https://youtu.be/vuMVQux4948 A fresh take on the old school mechanics of the classic 'Defender' game, 'Necromonads' has a high bar to hurdle. Ultimately, the game doesn't clear the bar but a sequel with a few mechanical tweaks would be something to watch for. The core movement feels good but the shooting rewards spamming over accuracy, this results in a much more button mashing feel. Enemy variety ramps up very slowly, multiple levels go by without challenging the player with anything but a single dim-witted enemy type. The lack of visual screen wrapping is also a bummer but a minor concern to the previous issues.
meh install, play, delete, hide in library.
This game has very little to offer. If you like "retro" maybe this is for you. For me the first time was WTF because the level took forever to complete, with only 1-2 enemies at once and not even getting close to the ground. The second level was like 1 min and done. WTF! Then I noticed that the humans on the ground (probably randomly generated) need to get home and the enemies are all the same. I started to just fly around carelessly and died 3 times be crashing into spawning ships. Uninstalled and never looked back.
It's a defender remake with a nice art style. Didn't find it interesting at all, but if you're itching to replay Defender then maybe? I'd really give this game a neutral review, but I'll give it a positive because it works and looks good imo. Just know that you're more or less getting a clone of a 1980 game. Maybe get it on sale.
