good
This is the most ridiculous version I’ve ever played. As an online quick play player, setting up a proper pick-and-roll in this version is virtually impossible. If you stand there waiting for the screen like in previous years, you’ll easily get stripped brainlessly at least ten times a game. You’re forced to develop a mid-range game, which heavily tests your mastery of the shot meter—rewarding rhythm and timing over actual basketball IQ. In the past, beating casuals was simple: as long as you executed solid pick-and-rolls to force mismatches and set up your defense, you’d crush opponents who took bad shots and jacked up random threes. Even if your shot timing wasn’t as green as theirs, your higher basketball IQ allowed you to easily suppress purely mechanical players. However, this year's overpowered on-ball steal mechanic punishes drop coverage severely, costing you tons of possessions. If you manually control the primary ball-handler, you can't drop back effectively to protect the rim, which lowers the barrier for low-IQ players to attack the paint. If your offense is terrible, you can just find a cheese play that exploits the AI defense and run it from the first minute to the last. No adaptability required—just spam the exact same setup and turn the game into a contest of who handles the controller better, strips more balls, and hits more green releases. This version is purely about mechanical skill, making it the least basketball-oriented iteration yet. It’s a total dream for MyCareer players. Drop defense has been heavily nerfed because, as long as the player’s stick skills are good enough, anyone can hit threes—even players who can't shoot to save their life in the actual NBA. To protect players with zero tactical mind, pushing the ball in transition and passing have become the hardest parts of the game. Rewarding mechanical skill is fine, but this turns a rare basketball simulation into just another Esports button-masher.
