About
A dark-fantasy RPG about identity, betrayal, and the thin line between humanity and monstrosity.
Monsters and Men is a story-driven, 40+ hour JRPG where goblins, orcs, dragons and humans all struggle under the shadow of a corrupt kingdom bent on creating the “perfect lifeform.”
What begins as a simple mission to track down a mysterious green-haired woman spirals into a world-shaking rebellion filled with ancient magic, cosmic relics, and the sins of forgotten ages.
You’ll guide a diverse cast of creatures and heroes as they uncover the truth behind Project Genesis and the dark experiments fueling The Kingdom’s rise.
Travel from burning cities to frozen frontiers, from holy cathedrals to ancient Tribunal islands, and deep into cosmic ruins where the very air hums with the breath of forgotten gods. Face tragic knights, mutated beasts, celestial guardians, and the ghosts of your characters’ pasts.
Forge alliances with rebel factions, confront monstrous creations, and make choices that challenge what it truly means to be human… or something else entirely.

54hr with in between break, crafting is eaier but pretty slow i didnt use the crafter item much. the game is pretty short compair with other game shane made. overhall enjoy the game
I waited till I played it for quite awhile before writing so I could give a well thought out review. I am enjoying the game very much. I do find I have to grind and think out my battles but that is not a bad thing, there are ample drops from enemy's and lots of chests. You get so many different characters to choose from all of them have unique and helpful abilities. It took me a bit you figure out how to allocate the the points and use the skill points to my advantage once I did it was game changer. There are so many twists and turns and will keep you on your toes so always be ready for a fight. I love all the games by this developer what turned out to be a challenge for me at first has turned into my favorite game to date by the developer. If you are on the fence just buy it, you will not be disappointed. The developer and other players have been a huge help to me on the discussions forum. Way to go to the developer for putting out such a great game.
TLWR: An enjoyable old-school JRPG that requires some dedicated grinding at certain story junctions to be able to comfortably progress. If you like the early FFs and don't mind the grinding I'd recommend it. In Detail: At first I didn't know how I felt about it. The enemies felt too powerful but manageable. Then, when my party was for the first time split into 3 separate groups in an otherwise balck screen, the game was brutally difficult afterwards. I lost some of time. Moving forward until I had no supplies I couldnt do anything but die. I tried selecting different groups/individuals first, kept dying. I was very close to quitting and blaming bad balance. Then I rememebered a previous reviewer saying he really had to grind then it became better. I had to save after EVERY fight. I would fight once, nearly die right by the entrance, leave, use an Inn, repeat for what felt like quite some time. Once I got to lvl 10, it became doable. Then, when I finished the first of the three separate arcs, the next group of people didn't lvl up so I had to repeat this BUT the equipment aquired by the previous group made it much easier and quicker and from there the game was fun. There are junctions in the story where the difficulty jumps again and I had to grind to be comfortable but it was never as tough and I enjyoed the game thoroughly from then on.
Fun and in depth story and the crafting is a good pass time
This is an excellent game. Great script, interesting characters. Finished in about 30 hours. Quite replayable,.
This is one of those rare indie JRPGs that actually delivers on what it promises...a dark, story-driven adventure with real weight behind it. What stood out most to me was the freedom in building your party. There are so many ways to approach combat, gear, and skills that no two playthroughs will feel the same. You can go full strategy, brute force, or create some absolutely wild multi-attack builds that feel incredibly rewarding once they come together. The world itself is packed with variety..from eerie ruins to sprawling zones that make exploration feel meaningful, not just filler. And the story? It leans into that darker tone in a way that actually sticks. It’s not afraid to get heavy. Fair warning: the game doesn’t hold your hand. There are points where the difficulty spikes and you’ll need to grind, rethink your setup, or just get stronger. But once you push past that, the game really opens up and becomes hard to put down. If you’re a fan of classic JRPG systems with deeper customization and a darker edge, this is absolutely worth your time.
It has to be said that all of Wolfs Moon Studios games are excellent ---- in playthrough, in value, and in game design. This one, their latest, is an overwhelming classic. Solo developer Shane Crawford has given us one of the very best old school rpgs I have seen or played. The game tells a captivating story involving world changing events as seen through the eyes of 11 interesting, well developed characters that are attempting to halt the evil and correct the untimely events. As with all games of this type, the story is critical and this one is interesting, fun, and easily captivates the player. The attention to detail is very impressive. No bugs that I found anywhere ---- just a TON of things to do, areas to explore, lands to see, dungeons to clear, monsters to battle, and a huge amount of items to collect. Then you have to consider what to do with all these discoveries, and thanks to the developer being many steps ahead of us, everything makes sense and comes together perfectly. And that's another big plus. Developer Shane Crawford is a very attentive and involved developer. He will stay in touch via the forums, he will answer any question, and he will offer clues and advice to everyone. You don't see that much anymore, and it shows how much the developer wants his games to be enjoyed by all and speaks volumes about him as a person. The game can be enjoyed by anyone, beginner or seasoned player, and I enjoyed it for 90 hours! I don't recall spending that much time on an individual game in a long time (well, since the last Wolfs Moon game I played), but the time flew by and I was sorry when the very satisfying and well done conclusion arrived. I own and have played a ton of these games, and this one is easily somewhere in the top 2 or 3 of all of them. Shane has shown us ---- again ---- what CAN be done when the right effort is made. I fully recommend this game as a must have (as I do all of Wolfs Moon games). It's an instant classic!! When better games like this are made, they will very likely be made by Wolfs Moon Studios.
I was literally just going to type "GG" and move on with my life. That was the plan. One tap, two letters, done. But then I sat there staring at the screen thinking… no, Wolfs Moon Studios deserves better than that. So here we are. You play as Sebastian the Orc and Bearback the Goblin on a mission, and somewhere along the way you pick up Gentry — who is just a stupid rabbit, by the way — and a whole cast of others. It's a blast. That's really all you need to know. Anyway, I spent way more time deciding whether to write this review than the review itself took to write. No Daniel either, which is always a win. That guy sucks. Verdict: Just play it. Highly recommended.
The story isn't good. Characters just seem to agree with the story to push the narrative forward. It's like every character is pushing the skip button. Drastic, life altering decisions get made with no examination or conflict. Betray everything about who you are, where you come from and become an international criminal. "OK, I will do that." No motivation expressed. No struggle. No convincing required. The gameplay is fine.
