A must-play for C&C and XCOM fans Also ♥♥♥♥ running out of ammo It combines the satisfying tactical decision-making of XCOM with the larger-scale military strategy and battlefield feel of classic C&C. You’re constantly making choices—where to deploy, which objectives to prioritize, how to manage your forces, and how to adapt when everything inevitably goes wrong. The combat is solid , the strategy runs deep, and victories feel earned rather than handed to you. There’s a great balance between planning ahead and improvising when your carefully laid-out strategy inevitably falls apart. If you grew up playing C&C and spent way too many hours with XCOM, MENACE is absolutely worth checking out. This is exactly the kind of strategy game I’ve been waiting for. Highly recommended.
Feels fresh as a TB-Tactical Game. I've been longing for a different game in the genre similar to X-COM, but less frustrating (XD). It seems the game is still yet to be finished as the time of buying it says it's still in Beta Testing. HOWEVER, here are some of the main things i found: PROS MAIN PRO: - Has interesting Mechanics based on what you'd expect from cover in reality. - Many options to customize your character battle loadout. - Cool in game visuals - PreMade Characters give you options based on their abilities to adapt different playstyles. - Extremely well optimized. The game is less than 30GB and running it on my main PC barely triggers mi fans or better said it wont heat my PC haha. CONS MAIN CON: - No clear instructions on how to use all abilities, which leads to a tough learning curve. - Story not yet fully fleshed out or not compelling, feels less immersive during game. - UI Design feels plain. - In game missions don't have a sense of urgency for the Player. Missions give you a determined amount of turns as a secondary objective, but no real consequences happen if its not completed. - NO option to save progress during active mission. You have to finish the mission before it can be saved. - Lots of tradeable items with no clear purpose. Comments to the DEVS: Keep making games! : )
The "No" recommendation is for the game in its current state for its current price of $40 and promise to increase price after coming out of Early access. Currently this is a $12-15 game. The gameplay is great. There is a decent amount of content in terms of pilots, content, skills. There's a ton of polish in what already exists. There is a very limited gameplay loop currently. It does not take long to get bored of this. The early access description does promise a campaign in a years time. This is what the game is currently missing and will maybe justify it as a $25-30 game. With updates of the game I will switch to a "yes" recommendation if it justifies a greater price but currently the game is nowhere near the $40+ it's set at. For me I think charge $20 for the game now and then increase the price when you create the campaign but currently it is just too much even though it is a good game already.
Game is too tuned even at this point for 'perfect play'. No major investment even on normal that teaches folks how to mitigate squaddie death gradually, and obtaining more of them requires too much tech tree to get extras after successful missions. Cost on the black market of buying more is too high (240) - this may be fixed by tuning this with some 'holy crap you're bad, here's a one time discount and you can only buy it if you've lost some percentage of them option. There is also no 'end campaign' option just to wrap it all up, one just has to start a 'new game' and abandon the old stuff. It's a minor annoyance, and also fixable.
Awesome format that makes you think about terrain and make hard choices that don't always have clear answers. Combat is engaging and dynamic, the variety of units/weapons are great, and the squad leader concept makes each group of soldiers feel unique. Been great updates and communication from the developers as well.
The game is a modernised combination of Fallout: Tactics and XCOM. Impressive effects, good balance, interesting skill/ weapon combinations. Felt really good playing and happy with the price. It does however, feel like it can use a few more skill/ability mechanics in the next patches and more missions. Currently it feels 80-90% complete. The ship can use more skill slots, the SLs a bit more skill variety to increase specialization. The format definitely allows multiplayer, would love to see that.
One of the very best epic TB games out there. Constantly gaining new content & changes & Polished bug fixes no stop & so much more. It doesn't even feel being an Early Access Game anymore. If you get this game, you will be sitting & playing it for hours, days weeks months even. Do not hesitate, it´s a blast & that is a promise! <3 BR AN.
Brutally difficult and unforgiving. Now that's fine for some folks but not my thing. XCOM was fun, I played it endlessly, this is not fun. You get 4 squads before the first mission, I lost 2 squads despite them being behind cover ON THE FIRST MISSION, and I'm really really not new to the genre. Now as I said some folk like to bang their head against a wall for hours on end learning something. But not for me with my limited free time. I've refunded, not to say I won't pick it up again at some point, but it's going to need one hell of a lot of balancing before I do so
So I returned after taking a few month of as you do with early access titles, just for the devs to ad a new SL tax mechanic that punishes not min-maxing. After we went through the self same thing with the whole promotion tax thing!
