nice whip, ♥♥♥♥♥ game is good. punishes you for being braindead. rewards you for being brainalive. characters are great. especially J.G (don't tell anyone else that or they'll clutch their darby pearls and explode in anger) variety of small problems, but likely to be fixed since the devs aren't useless. main problem? game ain't finished and i want it finished. life sux
Had some issues with using vehicles to run over enemies not working, and heavy vehicles kinda suck to field. besides that, this ♥♥♥♥ is gas. just make sure to bring lots of AT when fighting humans.
I'm addicted...
Firstly, on the off chance the Dev's read this> I would like you to know that I bought the game based on Tex of the black Pants Legion recommendation as to your character and conduct. Now to to first day of game play, and uncounted squaddies. The core game play loop is fun and rewarding, with the character and equipment progression being at a good level. Definitely a fun sci-fi strategy game. I would like more of a core narrative with some priority missions, similar to x-com. As the Planetary jingwei invited you here to do stuff for them for a reason. Perhaps the rouge army or pirates could try to sway you to do missions for them as well. more of a fun narrative with a core mission like in hindbrains BattleTech. will update once I have finished more of it or the full release is out.
By and large this review will be a copy and paste of my review for the demo. This game is phenomenal and a fantastic example of what an early access game should be. The balance is actively being worked on and even without that feels like it's in a good spot. The voice acting and personality of the individual squad leaders is done very well, and the art direction as a whole is wonderful. The gameplay feels fluid and the squad customization is a really good example of asymmetrical gameplay. Do you bring in two fantastic squads with armored support? Or do you put your faith in numbers and bring in 5 less well equipped infantry squads? Which squad leaders do you specialize for what and how you pick their perks will be one of the most important aspects of this game. The amount of possibilities in gameplay styles and how you build and utilize individual squad leaders with each other is really well done. A lot of people seem to have expected this game to play like the newer xcom games, but just a look at the equipment selection screen tells you that it plays closer to Xenonauts than Xcom 2. Suppression and volume of fire are a major factor in how you play. Battle rifles might cut through armor and at longer ranges, but assault rifles and submachine guns both have a higher rate of fire and assuming you put them in a good position will eventually punch through infantry armor rather than cutting through. How you use placement and tactics will be very influential in how you succeed and I think it's fantastic. Some things do feel a little unbalanced or at least they’re difficult to counter like the pirate rocket trucks, but if you use your armor for a spearhead then they are pretty easily countered. I've gotten somewhere around 80 hours of entertainment so far between the demo, the base game, and the playtest version that I am active in. I swear to you that if you enjoy the xcom games, or xenonauts, or any other turn based military focused strategy game then I cannot recommend this game enough, the pace of active development, the responsiveness of the devs to their community, and the devs previous track records all show that while they have already produced a phenomenal game, they're doing their very best to create what might genuinely be a contender for the best game in the genre to date. Give it a try.
+ Positives -amazing artstyle - great characters - engaging gameplay mechanics that punish careless behaviour and reward strategies - more than enough hours of gameplay for the price and comsidering its only in early acess rn its going expand - Negatives - the central enemy faction of this game is just bullet sponge which is a shame considering how diverse in feel and strategies are the different hostile factions personally id rather put the rogue armys rebellion to the centre of the plot or just make the menace more interesting of a fight
It is a fun fluid game in the same vein as any other turn based strategy game, with its own unique twist. If you like the aesthetic, you will most likely enjoy the game. Very much still in development.
