Medusa's Heart of Stone Chapter 01

Medusa's Heart of Stone is an interesting little twist on the Medusa myth where Medusa's heart was sealed up in stone to limit the pain of her curse. If she is to give her heart to the right person she might have her curse lifted, but if she gives it to the wrong person, she'll be forever cursed. The gameplay is weak, with the first action encounter being obtusely difficult, a fetch quest with quite a bit of backtracking, and a bit tedious stealth sequence. However, I didn't find any of this to be too much to ruin the story and dialogue of the characters, which is very much the strength of the game. On that note, I do like how they have adapted some of the characters from mythology, such as Medusa, Hecate, and Oedipus. However, there are choices made that make it seem that this is a Medusa retelling heavily in favor of the Tragos/Nemesis perspective, as opposed to also using the richness of the Eros or Hamartia perspectives. This can be clearly seen in the portrayal of Perseus, who is a typical self-assured Greek hero, completely ignoring the source material that Perseus was raised as a fisherman who only went hunting for Medusa's head as a solitary effort to keep his mother out of the hands of the lecherous King Polydectes. Still a raw deal for Medusa though. I hope the developers can continue to tell their story while still being faithful in spirit to the source material. This is a mild thumbs up but I still enjoyed my brief time and am looking forward to the subsequent chapters.

I have played also their previous game, The Little Red Lie, when it came out, and can see where this game comes from. Even though it's based on some ancient lore that's been used a reused, the plot is original and new, so I can say this game is quite promising. I only believe the character should move faster during fighting sequences.

The game is nice and the dialogue's hilarious. The character's designs are so good and original. It's true that the combat system can be a little bit tough at the beginning if you are not so used to the 3D; yet once you take it into account, it becomes much easier. It is kinda sad; from the point of view of Medusa, yet the plot is intriguing. It's a shame that it is only 1 chapter, I'd have liked to see how the story ends. Hopefully, we will see it in the future.

'Medusa's Heart of Stone Chapter 01' – это отличный старт для серии, обещающий много захватывающих моментов в будущем.
