DANKE
I am very sad to have to put a thumbs down. I love this game however the recent series of updates have changed the game from a balance of realistic, fun and hard to just difficult. its too fine a nuance now that its unenjoyable getting so little food from fields due to bad crop rotation dynamics (not enough overlapping fertility) and having nerfed the vegtables. Medieval life was hard, no doubt and I want to re state that I really love this game but like it feels you're just fighting a losing battle. I run out of say Iron in one section, so I have to claim an area with high Iron but low fertility/food. I bearly have enough food to sustain the first area, which now has to trade with the second (not supply but trade) area this sparce food. This implies a functioning economy which is difficult to establish if you HAVE NO FOOD. You can have an enourmous field which only produces 30 wheat for example even with a high fertility rate. You then have to set up an industry to process this, alternatively you have oats which only get processed in Winter. If you run out of food before then, despite having them, theres no choice but to wait till winter. If you somehow manage to get the population up and running and you can provide food for ther early part you dont have enough people to set up the industry for the desired resource + making enough of a resources to trade. You then have two seperate treasuries (pain in the eye quite frankly) one which allows you to set up the other city but the other can be used to trade. You need both, because gold couldnt be used for bother in one treasury and isnt interchangable ofcourse. Even if you establish planks as an early resourse to trade for food in the begining, you cant trade the excess out of the areas importing it due to the limited nature of the trade posts. Its either inter or outer regions. you cant trade between and then sell on to external exonomys. its just you buy planks and hope to trade other goods to keep your economy going while the dwindeling food doesnt move. By the end of it youre just fire fighting and the fun has gone out of it. To be clear, a challenge is fun, its just too much micro managing now. Just bring in more food (most importantly) secondly make the trading more equitable for gold, but allow the opportunity to send shipments to regions aswell, just dont automate it. It would fill the need without losing the need for trade between the areas.
Well, it looks nice and you can certainly get some fun out of it. But that dries up quite quickly. The early-mid game content is there but that is about it really. Development has been quite slow to say the least. I don't think it's quite hit valheim levels of slow though. Honestly I can't recommend the game right now. Give it a few months or a year and come back.
As of writing this the current "stable" version of the game erases autosaves during a crash which can cause you to lose hours of progress. Crashes also happen quite often. Not playable until this game-breaking bug is fixed, save your money.
It's not playable. too many unresolved problems. There is no joy in playing this. And it's too slow.
The game showed strong promise and potential when it was released, and I understand the dev team is small. However over 2 years of early access, barely any new content or mechanics have been added to the game to show for it. While new updates are balance tweaks, bugfixes and reworking existing mechanics, there's nothing being added to the game to keep me interested playing. Once you build a stable settlement... that's it. I've found the combat and raiders more of annoyance than anything. There's no clear roadmap or plan for the game from the developer, just continual adjustment of the same mechanics over and over every update. Unless the developers change course, then I wouldn't recommended paying $40 or $26 on sale for a game that you can complete in a few hours. Oh and be prepared if do you voice any constructive criticism of the game, the community will launch a crusade against you in defense of the game.
Half baked with years of broken promises. Other reviewers have said so far better than I can describe. I bought during a recent steam sale, and it presents as more of a $10-$15 demo than anything resembling a complete game. Certainly not worth the $25 sale price, let alone $40.
meh not really updated in 2 years
