I currently do not recommend this game to anyone at all since the game contains a few unavoidable bugs which can cause you to lose the gametime of an entire campaign run. I ended up losing a total of 25-30 hours of gameplay out of the 50 hours i'm carrying under my belt. The rest were experimental gametime. The game is beautiful and its great fun, but its not worth it if the game progresses to a sudden end, then realizing that all that time has been for nothing. I am tapped out. I'm going to stop playing this game until these problems has been fixed. I will recheck this in a few months. The current bugs are easily triggered. I just stopped the game during my third and final attempt. I did some online researching, and unfortunately, it seems to be a known issue, which the community has already pointed out several times. Bug 1. I encountered the first bug after constructing the manor (which is needed for tax, which you can use to purchase mercenaries), I farmed + spent around 320 planks in order to build walls + gates around my city, but after finishing the walls, i cannot build anything inside the walls anymore. I am able to build outside the walls, but that's useless if you play against bandits/computer, who will try to burn everything. The problem with this bug is that rebuilding the walls is the only solution, but you'd have to demolish the entire walls first, which is non-refundable, so i would have to spend another 320 planks again. Bug 2. Then i got another bug: after building the walls, i went into castle planner and tried to extend my outer wall (i.e. making a new line attached to the current wall), but i disliked the way it looked so i tried to remove it (alt + leftclick) but since that extension automatically became part of the entire wall, deleting made me delete everything. Then the entire wall looks like a ghost/transparent. I immediately pressed cancel. Luckily, the walls are still there, but after going back into the castle planner again, the ghost looking transparent walls are still there. The cancel button within the castle planner mode is greyed out. The commit button is still visible, but pressing that will exit the planner and automatically remove everything (which is the delete action you did before). Demolishing and then deconstructing the walls is the only solution, but just like i stated in bug 1, you will lose the 320 planks. Bug 1 and 2 were both present at the same time during my third attempt. It killed my progression within my campaign: to conquer the entire map versus bandits + computer. I would lose my pace, so redoing the campaign would be the best logical choice. Bug 3. So i figured that the materials after building the walls are considered consumables, which means that you lose the materials right after building the walls, but that isnt realistic at all (its not food) deconstructing the walls should refund the planks (partially). Objectively, this should not be a problem at all as long you can carefully build the walls without making any errors (which i did during my second/third attempt, i rebuilt it twice in the third attempt). Little by little. Unfortunately, another bug which is unavoidable: slight tweaks to the existing wall is considered as a brand new wall, so i have to spend around 320+10 = 330 planks (i.e. curving any sharp corners or slightly dragging the wall a bit outside). I dont want to spend another 330, but i cannot undo that tweak, the cancel button is not visible either. The community pointed out that building a new manor and going into that planner will fix the planner on the first one, but im afraid a lot more bugs will surely reveal itself...
So boring compared to other titles of the same genre
Been with this game since day 1, but I cannot recommend. The dev team are incredibly slow, with bugs persisting since launch that have yet to be fixed, and every update seems to break something else. It's a downwards spiral of instability. The devs also seem far too preoccupied with focusing on a few systems or parts of the game and neglecting everything else, so you have an incredibly intricate and cool castle builder, but it doesn't mean anything when the economy, resources, AI, and the rest of the game itself are broken beyond belief or still unfinished. We have resources in the game that have been there since the early days or even day 1 that STILL do not do anything, and have no crafting paths, so things like candles and cider are in the game, you have wax and apples, but you cannot do anything with them. So many resources are just complete dead-ends or don't work the way they should. They also did a complete overhaul of the UI and art for no reason, and this is exactly what I mean. It wasn't broken and it looked fine, it looked good, there was absolutely no reason why the UI needed a rework. They will spend an entire year on the game just focusing on reworking something that already exists, instead of expanding the rest of the game first. Updates have also slowed to a crawl to the point that I'm having to take a break for like half a year, just to come back to play it for a few hours to discover what else is broken before putting it down and giving it another break. I don't know what is happening behind the scenes but I suspect it has a lot to do with development bloat or pure incompetence, and I suggest the devs get their house in order if they want people to stick around. I also suggest that prospective buyers hold on to their money and don't give the devs a single penny, because this one game has made them millionaires overnight with barely anything to show for it. We keep telling the devs what they should focus on but they completely ghost us, don't listen, and don't interact with their players, then drop an update that addresses none of our concerns or wants. I don't even expect them to read this review or take anything from it. FINISH. YOUR. GAME.
Honestly, the game has a very fun idea and I really enjoyed it but its too obtuse. There is never enough information given to the player.
its a really good game to chill on and is really fun to play the details are amazing the only thing is they should put more tutorials like step by step on how to start off and what we need to start off so we get how the game works. then we can enter our own map and start off from what we learn from the tutorial.
Most positive reviews i've seen of this game states its "potential" and what it "can become". Going from what it is right now, it is not worth the price. I bought it when it "released" and since then not much has happened. The development is incredibly slow and the game feels unpolished and half done. I never buy early access games but made an exception for this game since it looked so good. I am really regretting my purchase and wish i would have held out to see if they will release a full version some time in the future. I wouldn't hold my breath though.
Fund this game as hard and as fast as possible, I need more of it and i need all mechanics to be deeper and more complex. I love this game.
good game play but i can see why its not fully out yet you will fine many many bugs
An originally super hyped game that now feels like it has stalled. It feels like it is 80% complete yet it feels like it's 40% of the way there. I've enjoyed the mechanics and the graphics but it does feel shallow and superficial. There's only one dev behind this, and while he's doing the best he can, you can only expect so many patches and feature releases in a given year. This has been out for almost 2 years now and I suspect another 4 to 5 years will be needed before the full 1.0 release comes out (if the dev doesn't get bored and moves on). Definitely worth trying on sale but right now I would hold off until the 1.0 release. ...or until the Strait of Hormuz is reopened. Whichever comes first!
