Mafia: The Old Country

I'm a huge story fanatic. I love intricate story games with buildup. Mafia, in the past, has held up to what I expected. For a game of this price, I expected so much better. It's pretty, and has some ok bones, but really falls behind in nearly every way that matters. There isn't enough content, the controls are beyond janky to the point where I had to lower the difficulty in order to get the game to be playable, and it's much much more movie than game. Every car ride felt skippable, but I played them, hoping to find something fun and awesome in the doing so, only to get more and more and more frustrated in the game. You could tell a lot of work went into the art and design, because that is all this game is. There is passion in making it pretty, but that's about it. As a mafia enjoyer, I really wanted to love it, but it was just consistently letting me down, and I regret playing it. Would have been better off watching a youtube cutout of the cutscenes. Would have had the same effect without having to struggle with poor controls that simply don't work.

Good NOT great, the knife fighting was an epic fail, and the story made no sense at the end (there was no betrayal by Enzo). Otherwise it was a decent snack until Mafia 4 arrives.
