Mafia: The Old Country

Mafia: The Old Country is such an inconsistent game but hit all the right spots for me. On one hand you have a game that feels straight out of 2015 with surface-level stealth mechanics, combat that is ludicrously easy, slow looting mechanics, the occasional visual bug, weird boss fights that are easy to cheese and a linear story but on the other you have a fantastic cast of characters, an immersive story that hits all sorts of emotional highs and lows, some of the best dialogue in a game in quite some time, a drop-dead gorgeous world and despite simple gameplay, an enjoyable experience. You see the rise of Enzo and watch the events of the story unfold from when he is 17 years old and slaving away in the local sulfur mines. This game will have you immersed immediately in it's world and whilst there is issues with it being super linear and the free-roam mode lacking a great deal of content, this does have the positive side effect of the game not overstaying its welcome. The Man of Honour 2-Chapter DLC is in the first third of the game and flows nicely in a first ever playthrough, in an effort to get through my backlog I have not touched the free roam content which boils down to collectibles and random combat challenges/races but I'm sure I'll come back to it at some point. Mafia: The Old Country offers you a relatively short 15 hour campaign, probably less depending on your playstyle/difficulty, but that 15 hour campaign is executed near enough perfectly even if this game plays very reminiscent of a mid 2010s GOTY contender. You pay more than $60AUD to go see a two hour movie with your partner in the cinemas, 15 hours of content (more if you do free-roam) for around $60AUD when it goes on sale is worth the asking price.

I thought this was a very good installment in the Mafia franchise, it really feels like its got the good parts of the other games put together, narrative story line like 1 and 2, and the free ride open world aspect that 3 has. Great 10 hour story, beautiful world design, memorable characters. I also really loved to whole new knife fight thing they used. 9.5/10

Ажиотажа вокруг игры у меня не было. Я ее не прям чтобы ждал, мне казалось что сеттинг временного пограничья меня особо не зацепит. Но как же я кайфанул от игры. Атмосфера, игра камеры, повествование. Я остался очень доволен, а для себя еще раз отметил, что в серии Mafia нет провальных игры, вот прям таких которые хочется бросить. Какие-то нравятся больше, какие-то меньше. Идея сделать в этой части условный открытый мир, мне кажется сыграла игре в плюс. Играйте и наслаждайтесь.
