Lozenge is a puzzle game that embraces simplicity while delivering a surprisingly engaging mental challenge. Developed and published by XiNFiNiTY Games, the title takes inspiration from classic shape-fitting puzzles but introduces its own identity through a triangular playing field and a scoring system that rewards careful planning. Rather than relying on flashy visuals or complicated mechanics, the game focuses entirely on the satisfaction of placing geometric pieces efficiently and maximizing points through strategic decisions. The gameplay revolves around fitting randomly generated shapes onto a board composed of interconnected triangles. At first, the concept appears straightforward, but the triangular layout creates unique placement considerations that distinguish Lozenge from more traditional block-based puzzle games. Every move carries weight because poorly placed pieces can limit future opportunities, while thoughtful positioning can set up large score bonuses. This balance between immediate gains and long-term planning forms the heart of the experience and keeps players constantly evaluating their next move. A notable aspect of the game is its scoring structure. Players are encouraged not only to fill available spaces but also to complete rows, diagonal patterns, and specific central objectives that grant additional points. These layered goals transform what could have been a simple shape-placement exercise into a puzzle experience that rewards foresight and efficient board management. As sessions progress, the challenge becomes increasingly focused on maintaining flexibility while pursuing higher-scoring combinations. Visually, Lozenge adopts a clean and minimalist presentation. The interface is easy to read, ensuring that players can focus entirely on solving puzzles without unnecessary distractions. Different color themes provide some customization and help keep the presentation fresh over extended play sessions. Although the graphics are intentionally modest, they suit the game's design philosophy well, creating an environment where gameplay remains the primary attraction. The audio design contributes positively to the overall atmosphere. Relaxing background music accompanies each session, creating a calm and contemplative mood. Instead of generating tension through fast-paced audio cues, the soundtrack encourages concentration and patience. This approach makes Lozenge an appealing option for players seeking a relaxing puzzle game that can be enjoyed at their own pace. Replayability comes largely from the random generation of puzzle pieces and the pursuit of higher scores. Because each game unfolds differently, players are consistently presented with new challenges that require adaptation. Steam achievements and leaderboard support add further incentives for those who enjoy competing against themselves or others. The desire to improve previous scores and discover more efficient strategies provides motivation to return even after mastering the basic mechanics. Despite its strengths, Lozenge may feel limited for players looking for extensive content or a variety of game modes. The experience remains tightly focused on its core gameplay loop, and there are few additional features to expand beyond that foundation. However, this focus can also be viewed as one of the game's strengths, as it avoids unnecessary complexity and delivers a polished puzzle experience built around a clear and consistent vision. Lozenge succeeds by offering a thoughtful blend of accessibility and strategic depth. Its straightforward rules make it easy to learn, while its scoring mechanics and board management challenges provide enough complexity to keep puzzle enthusiasts engaged. The game may not reinvent the genre, but it presents its ideas with confidence and executes them effectively. For players who appreciate relaxing puzzle games centered on logic, planning, and score optimization, Lozenge provides an enjoyable and rewarding experience that remains engaging long after the first session. Rating: 7/10
Relaxing puzzle game hampered by the (intentional or not) omission of certain rotations of a few pieces. Also, like another reviewer said, the game seems to stack assets even after pieces are cleared, and lags out to the point of unplayability around 15k points. Still, it's a nice little game to 100% in two sittings (if "Play 50 games" is your last achievement, just continually click the restart button until it pops ;P )
