Lost girl`s [diary] is a free-to-play visual novel developed and published by SmoleVN that combines supernatural storytelling, psychological horror, and slice-of-life character interactions into a short but atmospheric narrative experience. Rather than focusing on complicated gameplay systems or branching mechanics, the game centers almost entirely on mood, dialogue, and the unsettling feeling that slowly grows beneath what initially appears to be an ordinary gathering between friends. The result is a compact horror visual novel that succeeds through atmosphere and presentation rather than large-scale ambition. The story takes place during a snowy winter vacation where several friends gather inside a remote hotel far away from the city. What begins as a relaxing evening quickly transforms into something stranger when the group decides to share ghost stories and tell fortunes late into the night. Additional guests unexpectedly join the gathering, and the casual conversations slowly evolve into darker and more disturbing tales. The isolated setting becomes one of the game’s greatest strengths because the quiet hotel, heavy snowfall, and nighttime atmosphere create a constant sense of unease even before the supernatural elements fully emerge. Unlike many visual novels that emphasize player choice and multiple story routes, Lost girl`s [diary] follows a mostly linear structure. The experience unfolds like an interactive short story, with players progressing through conversations and narrative scenes without major branching decisions. While this reduces replay value, it allows the pacing to remain focused and controlled. The game gradually builds tension scene by scene, creating the feeling of sitting in a dark room listening to increasingly disturbing stories unfold around a group of uneasy strangers. The characters play an important role in maintaining the atmosphere. Each member of the group has a distinct personality, which helps the conversations feel natural and entertaining despite the relatively short runtime. Some characters behave playfully and joke about the ghost stories, while others appear more nervous or emotionally distant. This balance between humor and discomfort helps the game avoid becoming overly serious too quickly. The casual interactions make the group feel believable as friends spending time together, which in turn makes the horror moments feel more effective when the tone begins shifting into darker territory. Visually, the game adopts an anime-inspired art style with expressive character portraits and dimly lit backgrounds that fit the supernatural tone well. The snowy hotel environment creates a feeling of isolation that constantly lingers behind every conversation. Although the visual presentation is relatively simple compared to larger visual novels, the art direction succeeds because it complements the atmosphere instead of distracting from it. Character expressions are used effectively during tense scenes, helping communicate fear, discomfort, and uncertainty without relying heavily on dialogue alone. The sound design also contributes significantly to the experience. Calm background music and ambient sound effects establish a quiet and almost cozy atmosphere during the early portions of the game, but the audio gradually becomes more unsettling as the stories grow darker. Rather than relying on loud horror tactics or sudden shocks, the game prefers slower psychological tension and eerie storytelling. This approach works well because it allows players to become absorbed in the mood before introducing more disturbing supernatural imagery and themes. One of the more enjoyable aspects of Lost girl`s [diary] is how it mixes ordinary social interaction with horror elements. The characters spend much of the game teasing each other, joking about supernatural topics, and casually discussing the strange stories being shared. This relaxed tone creates contrast that makes the darker moments feel more impactful. The horror rarely feels overwhelming, but the gradual shift from comfort to discomfort gives the visual novel a memorable atmosphere that remains engaging throughout its short runtime. However, the game’s brevity may disappoint players hoping for a deeper narrative experience. The story can be completed fairly quickly, limiting how much time the game has to fully develop its characters or larger supernatural themes. Certain plot points and horror elements feel underexplored, leaving the impression that the world and characters could have supported a much longer and more detailed story. Players expecting complex mysteries or major emotional twists may therefore find the experience somewhat lightweight. The lack of interactivity may also reduce appeal for some audiences. Since the gameplay consists almost entirely of reading dialogue and progressing through scenes, players looking for puzzles, exploration, or meaningful player choice may feel disconnected from the experience. Lost girl`s [diary] depends heavily on atmosphere and storytelling, meaning enjoyment largely comes from appreciating its writing style and mood rather than traditional gameplay systems. Despite these limitations, the game succeeds as a compact supernatural visual novel that delivers an enjoyable blend of eerie storytelling and character-driven atmosphere. Its snowy setting, quiet pacing, and gradual psychological tension create the feeling of listening to ghost stories late at night with friends while something unsettling lurks beneath the surface. The simplicity of the experience ultimately works in its favor because the game remains focused on creating mood and emotional discomfort rather than overwhelming players with unnecessary complexity. For fans of indie visual novels, supernatural horror, and atmospheric storytelling, Lost girl`s [diary] offers a short but memorable experience filled with mystery, tension, and charming character interactions. It may not reinvent the genre or provide extensive gameplay depth, but its strong atmosphere and creepy late-night storytelling make it an entertaining horror visual novel worth experiencing.
A fairly short kinetic novel. The stories were entertaining if not very scary overall, but had a nice urban legend vibe. A decent way to pass an hour and free so it was more than worth it. The music is really good at setting as tone. Some questionable content here and there but noting too bad on the whole. Not much gameplay of course being a kinetic novel but a nice way to say spend a meal or just a little time, espescially if you like urban legends or folktale horror.
Слишком коротко, но неплохо. 8/10
