Lonely Journey is a horrible game. One of the worst I have ever played. It feels unfinished, poorly designed, and just not fun at any point. The gameplay is dull, the pacing is off, and there’s very little here that makes you want to keep going. Instead of feeling like a “journey,” it just feels tedious and frustrating.
Warning: Asset Flip! "孤独之旅 Lonely journey" is one of literally thousands of creatively bankrupt asset flips/kitbashes infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
The Chinese developer behind this junkware delusionally compares it to Ori and Hollow Knight... but this is not even in the same ballpark. It's a bunch of 2D sprites the developer ripped off from some real asset creator, slapped onto a basic barebones Unity platformer game template. Worse, this was a paid product, so this is a case of a shady dev trying to get YOUR money for other people's game assets. So, "孤独之旅 Lonely journey" is partially or completely made up of stock assets, "borrowed" from asset stores and free asset websites. Little, if anything in this game is the creation of the "developer". There is no price tag, but you get what you pay for. When developers can't do their job properly and instead plagiarise the work of others, usually they also lack the technical skills to handle coding, optimization, or game design, or any of the other things real, competent game developers do. "孤独之旅 Lonely journey" is proof of that. Asset flips never result in a high quality experience for gamers. Insultingly, the developer insists that you should play this with a console peasant children's toy gamepad instead of KB+M. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're designing games for. It's the responsibility of the developer to ensure the game runs well on the platform they're selling it on, with the primary peripherals that PC gamers use. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $2 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of only 14 players, it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a hard pass. There's no immediate financial commitment, but there are thousands of more compelling games on the platform that will give you a lot more enjoyment for your time.
