Reviews
For a long time now I've been looking for a similar game to Maplestory without similar predatory corporation practices. I decided to give La Tale a try, despite hearing that the grind in La Tale is actually worse and it's considerably pay-to-win, and the only western server happens to be located in US (I live in Europe). Compared to Maplestory, the graphics are, if not identical, then at least very close to it. You think the game would play like Maplestory but La Tale seems like a poorer copy of the game. Take the animations for example: the animations aren't nearly as smooth and you're locked into each animation until it plays through. The jumping animation especially was such a turnaway. For a new player, the game itself feels overwhelming to the point I felt more comfortable simply not playing it. The key scheme and the controls feel clunky and unintuitive. Who in their right mind would choose such controls? It'd feel an enormous drag to try and change them, if it were possible (at this point I had given up). I'm not looking for a second job, and anything that feels like such a chore before even getting to good parts (if any good parts remain) I'd rather give up on. It doesn't help that the game itself feels abandoned except for the most veteran players. The new player experience feels overwhelming and honestly not worth the effort, especially when reading the reviews for the game which state how the game doesn't simply feel meaningful enough to play. Besides, I've had my share of different sorts of games, some of them shipwrecks already at launch, some of them turned into ghostships with time; I'd rather not board a sunken ship when it's uncertain whether the game will even remain playable in the foreseeable future.
