A slightly better take on the “banana” genre of games. Still not good though.
Who's there?
"Knock" is a clicker but not an incrementer (you don't get more stuff or upgrades). But at least it's not one of those Steam Marketplace/NFT scams. Instead it's a kind of jokey "more art than game" ordeal where you have to click 100000 times (use an autoclicker... or just don't bother and watch the ending on a Youtube video). You get some funny text every now and then if you click... but if 100% of the enjoyment of any game can be had by watching a fastforwarded Youtube video, that game is whack. The technical execution of this game is shallow and simplistic, just enough to tick the boxes required to get something (anything) published on Steam, rather than investing the huge amount of effort and budget needed to create a fully fledged, comprehensive, high quality product. This feels like a tech demo more than a full game. The visuals here are almost entirely static images - there's barely any real game graphics to speak of. Rather than creating actual game graphics, the developer has served up a slideshow of still images. That's not a game, it's a presentation, and it's a profound disservice to gamers who came here looking for something actually playable. This was made with the godawful "GameMaker Studio" construction kit/toolset, which is popular amongst amateur developers because it handholds you through making really crap 2D games that you can publish for $100 on Steam Direct. This lets you pat yourself on the back for pretending to be a real game developer, which explains why GameMaker Studio is responsible for so much ignored garbage on Steam. GameMaker Studio has never really been used to make a truly successful game, but that doesn't stop people from trying and failing. It's a particularly bad game engine that can only be used for making low quality 2D products. Like this. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, as the old saying goes. Another reason this particular game wasn't successful. Next is pricing and what value this has for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. A peak of 10 concurrent players (according to SteamDB) for a "free" game is a disastrous public reception. Out of 130 million potential players here on Steam, almost nobody was interested. Even though this is "free". That level of rejection speaks a lot for the quality of the game. This "free" game won't count toward your game collection count on your profile. With that in mind, is it something you should still download? Definitely not. This is impossible to recommend. To quote another Steam reviewer, this should be a paid product... they should be paying people to download it.
