Knight Speed

I can say that, with all honesty, this is one of the greatest indie games that I have played in a very long time. To begin, the graphics are stunning. The slight movement of the beautifully crafted city in the background creates a fabulous illusion of motion, making the player truly feel like they're immersed within the lore of Override Studios' "Knight Speed." To continue, the gameplay. Some games can compensate with poor gameplay with graphics, and vice versa. However, no such scenario occurs within Knight Speed. Knight Speed has immersive *and* stunning gameplay on top of its graphics. Two simple mechanics, jumping and shooting, make for a complex (not talking about the plane perpendicular to the number line) infinite runner that rarely leaves the player with boredom. Next, the title screen and soundtrack. I nearly had a heart attack the first time I heard the sound track; in fact, my BPM clocked in at a record 196 beats per minute, accompanied by frequent goosebumps, leg shivers, and the occasional tear dripping down my cheek. The title screen, however, is spectacular. Not generated by AI, the title screen flaunts visuals emulating a mix of Claude Monet's Meules and DaVinci's Last Supper handcrafted by Override Studios himself. Finally, the community. The subreddit is popping off, with brand new WRs being set almost hourly. This game is truly one for the ages, and one each human being existing in the future should play. -BlueQ User

"Knight Speed" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. What do you do in the game? Platforming. Bad platforming. It's an incredibly shallow experience where you run a medieval knight in MS-Paint over some MS-Paint rooftops. Ugh. In terms of visuals, this features really godawful MS-Paint tier "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. The deplorably bad visuals here come across as an insult to gamers. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $3 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
