About

Kingless Dungeon is a fast-paced Hack and Slash action platformer that invites the player to explore an ancient and dark dungeon, taking on the role of its master: a Prince of Shadows who believes himself to be the hero of this world, as his memory has been altered by an unfortunate accident. Instead of delving deeper into the dungeon, the player must find a way out after concluding that the main threat has already been eliminated.
This is a university project developed by a group of student at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), as their first game during their freshman year.
Please note that the game does not include a save system, but the full experience can be completed in approximately 30 minutes.

In the darkest corner of the Kingdom, in the Dungeon of Shadows, resides the Villain — the infamous Prince of Shadows — whose loyal servants terrorize the world. The Villain rarely leaves his lair, but all know of his fearsome powers, rivaled only by the strength of the Hero.
However, not even the Prince’s abilities could defy the elementary laws of gravity. The Villain slipped and hit the ground while descending the dungeon stairs, lost his memories, and awoke confused at the foot of his throne. Alone in a massive chamber, he believed himself to be the hero who had just defeated the dungeon boss. “Victorious,” he decided to leave the dungeon, bravely fighting his way out — unaware that he was slaying his own minions and loyal servants.

"Kingless Dungeon" is a student project from University of Madrid. One of the first things students should be taught in game development is that 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid 1990's with dedicated 3D cards like the Voodoo3 and the ATI Rage. But the students were deliberately mistaught that's it's okay to release obsolete 2D games in the 3D era of gaming... certainly any professional developer seeing a prospective new hire who doesn't even know about 3D gaming probably isn't going to give them a job. Needless to say if an educational institution taught me incorrectly on purpose, I'd ask for my money back. So this is a simple 30 minute long 2D hack and slash platformer. You play as the Shadow Prince, a warrior with amnesia. The story follows the Prince's quest to reclaim his memories while navigating a dungeon filled with traps and undead enemies. There's no save feature (come on, teach students how to make those, it's important), which is a frustrating shortcoming. We also have to question what value there is for gamers on Steam when institutions flood the store with low quality 2D video game homework assignments... sure, it might make the students feel good about themselves, but this has no benefit for gamers who have to wade through this stuff to find professionally made 3D games. There's no English translation for the this, but that's okay. The language of bad products is universal. The game is quite short, and can be run through in just 30 minutes. The lack of content here makes it hard to suggest it's worth spending the time to add to your library and download. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.
A short adventure game that is really good, and i recommend it
