It's not hard to understand end-game progession. Do the tutorial and then sandbox before career, but then that's it. Worth the 20$

KSP 1 was always a great game, and now with modern mods it is even better than it was. It looks amazing with a few mods added in, better than some new titles. Gameplay is tweakable in about any way you could want, and of course, you get to send your Kerbals out to explore the final frontier!

send idiots into space, what more can you want. look up a guide because this game is impenetrable. definitely helps if you already have some idea of orbital mechanics and the history of spaceflight.
