
Katawa Shoujo is a romantic visual novel set in the fictional Japanese Yamaku High School for disabled children. Hisao's congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends—and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right.

one of the first visual novels i ever played. probably going to be one i think of for a while. i could relate to most if not all the love interests in one way or another, and that's something that will sit deep in my heart. definitely recommended if you want something meaningful to make you cry instead of looking at sad animal videos.

I don't usually play visual novels, but this was quite charming. The protagonist seems mostly realistic---though the bar is low, admittedly, since more other visual novels have the protagonists be perverts. I'm not sure if the portrayals of the characters' disabilities are accurate or tactful, as I am not part of that group, but I didn't find myself yelling at the screen. Don't come in expecting much "gameplay", though---visual novels are notoriously not centered around that. That said, it's free, so I can't be too harsh.
