This is a top down shooter with survival and rpg elements with a minimalist art style and Dark Souls level of difficulty. It is well thought out and feels rewarding when you manage to survive an encounter. Expect to die a lot in the first moments of the game, but get better and the game will make you feel like you earned it.
Simply not good. Not like what I saw in the trailer. No menu or options. Hopefully it'll get updated and I can change the review
a very fine game also devs are always in contact with their player with any problem
nice troll john, the jokes are not funny at all, the narration text block the screen the whole game i can stucked at any random object, looks like you've just finished game dev tutorial..

This game, is okay. It gave me some giggles, but could have been way better. Some things fixed maybe it would be worth more to invest my time in it. Also enemys move at the speed of sound, much like Sonic.
Отвратительно ужасная игра.
"johnsgame" is a 2D retro pixel top down shooter (with lightweight "survival" mechanics, aka, food and water meters) that's been slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio video game construction kit from Yoyogames. The game seems to have been made more as a joke than a serious and sincere attempt at game delivery (edit: I was wrong, it's just made incompetently). Some elements of the game are done badly on purpose, such as a huge, annoying text overlay in the middle of the screen that interferes with actually trying to play the game. I appreciate some developers think it's amusing to clutter the Steam store with junk games and jokes like this, but it's not good for the industry and isn't amusing for gamers to have to wade through all the garbage. Gameplay is terrible, a few things just don't work (like you can't drink water as far as I know, so you just die after a while). GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and unsurprisingly results in products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. Using a video game construction kit requires little to no talent or skill as a game developer. Very often, GameMaker Studio is used to make shovelware and lazy cash grabs. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. The game is completely free, and while in most circumstances this would be considered a noble gesture, the game itself doesn't come across as a genuine attempt at a game and therefore lacks value for gamers. There's thousands of more legitimate free indie projects on Steam that should be considered before this game.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer indicates an apparent lack of understanding regarding what game reviews are and who they are for. Game reviews are not written to inform and instruct game developers on how to produce games, they are written for gamers. The developer indicates this game was not made badly on purpose as a joke, which unfortunately means I was wrong to give the developer the benefit of the doubt. The game is simply bad due to incompetence. The developer attempts to justify this incompetence by saying they were 14 at the time. This does explain the poor quality, but it doesn't excuse it. If I went to hospital and had a botched surgery, and they told me it was because the doctor was 14 and drunk at the time, I wouldn't say "Oh that's okay then." For the most part, when reviewing a game, it's completely unimportant who the developer is. If this had been made by a AAA studio like Bethesda or Blizzard, I'd still provide exactly the same review, because the facts pertaining to the quality of game would remain unchanged. Once more the developer indicates they don't understand what a game review is by suggesting my review is a complaint, it's absolutely not a complaint. My review relates factual information about this game to inform gamers about important aspects of the game so they can use this information to decide whether it's the kind of game they would enjoy playing. Game reviews are not complaints, nor are they rewards or punishments for developers, because they have nothing to do with developers and are not intended for them. Reviews are for gamers. Nothing the developer has provided in this unnecessary and pointless response changes any of the major facts in my review, but I did amend the "joke" section as I stand corrected on that point.
