I'm a professional 3d modeler, and let's face it, doing UVs in Maya sucks. This little app makes the packing part less tidious. it automatically does a better job in few minutes that you would do manually in an hour. I like the "launch and forget" approach, the longer you let it work, the better job it will do. And since you can assign the number of thread it uses, you can just let it run in the background while doing other things. I have actually forgotten it several times, only to find very optimized UVs a couple of hours later. Really a big time saver, I convinced IT to install Steam on my computer just for this software
Where can I get a perpetual demo version? Demo version worked great. It was fast and had good results. The current purchased version barely functions at all, and if or when you get results, they are mediocre at best. Incredibly slow loading times, even for simple meshes. Packing speed is even worse... beyond slow. As for viewing the current progress, the "Draw Packing" option is useless or does not work (maybe it's just that slow). I can’t figure out how a great working demo version back in 2014/2015 begets such a terrible commercial version today. Seems like a scam now. What the hell happened? Patent conflict with NDA? Booze? Aliens? What? NOTE: If you want to revert to an older steam version that worked better than current: http://polycount.com/discussion/comment/2622730/#Comment_2622730

Loading and packing of heavy meshes takes forever or plainly crushes the software. Too expensive for it's functionality and limited use case. Asked for a refund. Will keep using Headus UVLayout.
Ok I will start off by saying UVing sucks and I would love to do anything to make it more barable especially on subdivision mesh's , the program overall is ok , its a tad glitchy if your mesh is really complicated and sometimes crashes while importing It has set texture resolutions to prepare the UV's but i dont really see a difference between 2048x2048 and 4k pack's there are also 8k packs but I have not touched that yet, i mainly set my UI to show overlaps and sometimes edit certain UV islands to pack seperately which is also a neat feature. I don't think there has been any updates since late 2016 on the software , considering its more spendy than a new video game and is a bit betaish feeling which is disappointing, also I do agree with the others on here when i say your demo was way faster for some reason which is really odd. I notice when importing an OBJ or FBX if i edit any of the settings for how my UV set imports it crashes almost 80 percent of the time , so i tend to tweak the settings after they have been imported in with the default settings , i used other programs that were more so free like roadkill and other modeling programs none are really that efficent. Also If you have alot of pieces to your mesh it takes FOREVER to finish and even then at that point you can do it from the editor in maya at that point , its nice as a touchup after you lay your UV's out in maya but other than that dont expect this to take away most of your time UVing Which im sure most of us really want in the long run or at least something automatic and more so stable ,i would recommend only because i havent found anything better
Демо версия упаковывает лучше, а полная версия при тех же настройках дает на ~10% хуже заполнение и дает хуже результат чем упаковщик в UVLayout
UI is confusing, for example a check box has 3 different states. Checked on, checked off and - . You can look for a help doc embedded in the program but I didn't find it. The PDF I found online was very short on explanation (also can be found at bottom right of this page). Seems to me the only way to use it and to get it to function the way I expect it to is if I also pull up a very large thread on Polycount.com to read through all the questions and answers. Going through it you see a reviewer bring up multiple amazing improvements along with other commenters..years ago..and for a $65 dollar program the updates do not come at all often, the last one was about 16months ago I think. I bought it based off of a review online and I think it has amazing potential especially if the improvements were made that were suggested by multiple commenters. Im curious if the indy version is just being neglected and the Commercial Edition has better features/options...if not, I do not recommend anyone spending $130 on it at this point. I really see this being an amazing tool if it was actually updated and its developer supported the software. Fingers crossed that in the future my $65 will pay off.
It used to work, now it doesn't, it's broken. Avoid.

I tried the demo which worked great, then decided to buy the full version which didn't work properly on my machine. I was denied my refund afterwards due to playtime which is ridiculous since I was testing to see if enough processing time would get the software to work (which it didn't) Unless you're on Win 7, Avoid this ♥♥♥♥ like the plague!!
Незаменимая программа для упаковки. Особо круто выручает, когда надо упаковать UV1 под лайтмпы, такую работу вручную настолько качественно не сделать. Так компактно упаковать UVs с более чем 200 кусками человек просто не в силах :D
