То, что мертво, умереть не может.
"Imperius" is one of those books you don't judge by the cover. This looks better than the underlying game, which raises the suspicion that the game assets may not have been created by the developer, which would be a problem. What you do get here is a shallow and simplistic barebones space battle system, a case of being crazy overambitious as yet another amateur developer bites off way more than he can chew. What do you do in the game? You're stuck with limited PvP (completely dead) and basic deathmatch vs AI gameplay as the developer was unable to come up with the promised game campaign... certainly I feel bad for anyone who paid money for this with the expectation the developer would deliver. If you're looking for a Homeworld type space RTS, this isn't it. I'm not sure if this is an asset flip, but it's one of those cases where the assets just look much better than the rest of the quality of the game... a glaring inconsistency. There's no evidence, but as always, the biggest problem with asset flips besides the plagiarism is the deplorably low quality of the other aspects of the game, and even if the game assets are genuinely created for the game, the quality of the rest of the game is indistinguishable from that of asset flips. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $1 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer loses his crap and has a weird tantrum because I suggested the assets might be flipped. I made it clear I wasn't sure and I explained why. But as always, and this should be very clear, despite the developers breach of Valve guidelines, asset flipping isn't just bad because of the plagiarism, it's bad because it creates products of terrible quality. And that's the thing, whether this is an asset flip or not, as I already stated in my review, the quality is indistinguishable from your usual Russian asset flip cash grab. The developers appalling response here really does shed more light on why this was such a complete and utter failure with only 5 concurrent users. Now if this guy actually paid for someone to go out and create the game assets as bespoke, what a complete waste of money... but here's a thing that probably won't surprise you... asset flippers and cash grab fraudsters tend to lie a lot. Case in point, the developer spews some absolute bullcrap about his toxic EULA being "normal and okay". What utter garbage. If the developer was even remotely ethical or honest, they wouldn't have put this utterly toxic, hostile EULA on their failed product. Ignore this developers lies, pay attention to their actions. And absolutely take the developer breach of guidelines here within the background context of just how badly this abandoned garbage failed. 5 concurrent users out of 130 million monthly visitors to Steam is beyond a joke, it's failure of astronomical proportions. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this failure to anyone.
Not good
The graphics look nice and its easy to uninstall. Every thing else is crap especially the controls. The game feels unfinished and abandoned.
