Impasto is a first-person horror adventure game inspired by the works and legacy of Francisco Goya, the revered yet tortured Spanish painter. Set within a world irreversibly altered by his fraying sanity, the player must use both stealth and wits to survive.

Great little proof of concept piece, got me interested more in Spanish history and Francisco Goya. I have seen his paintings but knew little about him. I was surprisingly very interested to learn more about his life and Spain during his time. The developers did a great job of building that intrigue. Gameplay wise, it could obviously use a little polish, and maybe some more light because it is very dark and hard to see. But I love the art direction and think it has a lot of potential if this style is expanded upon in the future. Great job

Impasto is a game that feels more like an interactive museum piece than something to be played for a good time. The art style is, of course, the draw here—everything is rendered in a grim, oil-painted aesthetic meant to mimic the work of Francisco Goya himself, and does so impressively well. The world feels sickly and dark, rich with character on art alone. They truly sell the illusion of walking through a haunted painting with little issue. Unfortunately, once you're done gawking at the brushwork, there's not much left to digest. You play as the late Goya's grandson, visiting his estate as the sole inheritor, and are promptly isekai'd into Francisco's tortured art dimension. Once there, you're given a handful of menial tasks to escape, and they boil down to rudimentary stealth and fetch quests. The enemy AI is basic and can be easily outwitted, (and this is coming from the worst stealth gamer in all of history, watch my Dishonored playthrough for proof), and the fetching portion is simply following a piece of paper in the wind. Once this is deduced, any semblance of tensions kind of vanishes, and the game is finished in short order. That said, it's free, which is the perfect price point for something like this. As a student project, it's a remarkable visual showcase. As a game, it leaves much to be desired. All in all though, I don't regret my time here. It's like peeking into a particularly fascinating sketchbook—worth a glance if you're into that kind of stuff, but nothing more than a curiosity otherwise. It says horror on the box, but just know it's more vibes than scares. I'd love to see something a bit more substantial and put together using this art style however, there's tons of potential here and I'm interested in seeing if anything more comes from this. I cannot recommend this game enough for art enthusiasts and admirers of Francisco Goya's artwork. The ambiance created by the colors, lighting, and mesmerizing music, accompanied by poetic storytelling, truly pulled me into the experience. The game has a few small bugs, but they can usually be fixed with a simple restart (in-game, like quick re-spawn), and the last checkpoint is typically close by, so it never becomes frustrating. The game features mild horror elements and a deeply melancholic atmosphere—both of which are essential for understanding Goya’s late works. Even the grand master himself would have loved this game if he had the chance to see it. Excellent work! Thank you to everyone who put effort into creating this game. And thank you, Francisco Goya—may your soul rest in peace.
A short horror game made by student devs. Definitely a good start for these guys, the setting is great and I love the story and idea for the game. I get what they were going for with the graphics, and while they look nice, they're also somewhat muddled in my opinion. The stealth mechanics aren't anything to write home about, but for an hour long game they serve their purpose. Definitely worth checking out.
Klare Empfehlung.
The stealth is eh, but the atmosphere and look is great! I recommend looking more into the history of Goya after playing this one... because it kinda only scratches the surface of that old, tortured man.
