This is easily one of the worst ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I’ve ever played in the hidden cat category. It’s incredibly lazy—you can literally see where pictures were just stuck on top of each other and the same cat assets are just repeated everywhere. There are zero features, not even a hint button for when you get stuck on the messy layers. It feels like no effort went into this at all. Stay away from this one.

Hidden Cats of Egypt, developed and published by Magic Cat, is a casual hidden-object game built around a simple but charming premise: search intricately illustrated Egyptian-themed scenes to find over a hundred cleverly concealed cats. As part of the growing subgenre of “hidden cats” games on Steam, it positions itself as a relaxing, low-pressure experience meant to appeal to players who enjoy observation-based puzzles and cozy aesthetics. With its free-to-play model and short-session design, it aims to provide accessible entertainment that can be enjoyed in brief bursts rather than extended marathons. The core gameplay is straightforward. Players are presented with large, static illustrated scenes inspired by ancient Egyptian environments—pyramids, temples, marketplaces, and desert landscapes. Within each image, cats are subtly embedded into the artwork, sometimes clearly visible and sometimes camouflaged among architectural details and background patterns. The challenge lies in scanning each environment carefully, zooming in when necessary, and clicking on every hidden feline until the scene is complete. There are no timers or competitive pressures, reinforcing the intended relaxed tone. Visually, the game attempts to blend whimsical cat designs with Egyptian iconography. The environments are detailed, often densely packed with objects and decorative elements that create the impression of a lively setting. However, the heavy visual density can be a double-edged sword. While it provides complexity and variety for players to explore, it can also lead to visual clutter. In some scenes, distinguishing cats from background elements becomes less a matter of clever hiding and more an exercise in pixel hunting. This can create moments of frustration, especially when the distinction between object and background lacks clarity. Mechanically, Hidden Cats of Egypt keeps things minimal. The interface allows for zooming and basic navigation across the illustrated maps, but there are limited additional systems layered on top of the core search mechanic. There are no elaborate hint systems, progression trees, or narrative arcs driving the experience forward. Completion is its own reward, often marked by simple achievements. This stripped-down approach ensures accessibility, but it also limits the sense of depth or progression that might sustain longer engagement. Audio and atmosphere play a relatively subdued role. While the theme suggests the potential for evocative Egyptian-inspired music or immersive ambient sounds, the overall sound design remains modest. The experience focuses primarily on the visual hunt rather than crafting a fully immersive world through layered audiovisual storytelling. As a result, the game leans more toward functional puzzle-solving than atmospheric exploration. Because it is free to play, Hidden Cats of Egypt lowers the barrier to entry, making it easy for players to try without commitment. For casual players who enjoy hidden-object games and are seeking a brief distraction, it can provide short-lived enjoyment. The simplicity of its mechanics means there is little learning curve, allowing players to jump directly into the search. However, this same simplicity can also limit replayability, as once all cats are found, there is minimal incentive to revisit completed scenes. Ultimately, Hidden Cats of Egypt occupies a niche within the casual puzzle space. Its concept is appealing in theory—a lighthearted feline scavenger hunt set against the backdrop of ancient Egypt—but its execution relies heavily on visual density and straightforward mechanics. Players who appreciate relaxed observation challenges and do not require complex systems or narrative layers may find it an adequate diversion. Those seeking polished artistry, layered progression, or refined hidden-object design may find the experience more limited. As a brief and accessible puzzle game, it fulfills its basic premise, but its longevity depends largely on individual tolerance for minimalist gameplay loops. Rating: 5/10
il m'en manquait un.... J'AI GALERERRRR xd
