Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1 is a delightful fantasy adventure that successfully captures the charm and accessibility that have defined the series over the years. Developed and published by Lonely Troops, this standalone tale serves as a prequel that focuses on a smaller-scale story while preserving the rewarding blend of exploration, quest-solving, and light role-playing mechanics that fans have come to expect. Rather than relying on epic world-ending stakes, the game tells a personal and engaging story about courage, friendship, and the desire to help those in need. The adventure begins in a city shaken by the threat of a dragon. During this uncertain time, the protagonist encounters Brent, a young orphan who dreams of becoming a legendary hero. Together, they embark on a journey that gradually expands from helping local citizens into a dangerous mission to uncover the dragon’s whereabouts and put an end to its menace. The narrative is simple and easy to follow, yet it remains engaging thanks to its warm tone and constant sense of progress. The relationship between the main character and Brent adds heart to the story and makes the quest feel more meaningful than a straightforward hunt for a monster. Gameplay revolves around exploring numerous locations, gathering resources, completing tasks, and assisting a wide range of characters. Every area contains useful items, hidden rewards, and opportunities to advance through side quests. The game encourages players to pay attention to their surroundings, rewarding curiosity with valuable resources and discoveries. This creates an enjoyable cycle of exploration and progression that keeps the experience consistently entertaining from beginning to end. One of the strongest aspects of the game is its quest design. Rather than focusing entirely on combat, many objectives involve helping villagers, collecting materials, solving practical problems, or trading items to unlock new opportunities. This approach gives the world a welcoming atmosphere and makes the player feel like an active participant in the community. Every completed quest contributes to character growth while simultaneously opening new paths forward. The progression system is straightforward but satisfying. Players improve their abilities, unlock useful skills, and gather better resources as the adventure unfolds. The game never overwhelms players with complicated mechanics, making it highly accessible even to those who rarely play role-playing games. At the same time, there is enough depth in the resource management and skill systems to keep the gameplay engaging throughout the entire journey. Visually, the game embraces a colorful and inviting fantasy style. The environments are filled with detail despite their relatively simple presentation, and each region has its own identity. Forests, villages, caves, and wilderness areas are all designed to encourage exploration. Hidden treasures and collectibles are scattered throughout the world, providing extra incentives for players who enjoy uncovering every secret. While the graphics are not cutting-edge, the art direction possesses a timeless charm that suits the game's relaxing atmosphere perfectly. Combat plays a supporting role within the overall experience. Encounters with monsters provide moments of danger and excitement, but battles remain easy to understand and never become the sole focus. Instead of demanding advanced tactics, the game emphasizes preparation, resource gathering, and gradual character development. This design choice complements the adventure-oriented structure and allows players to enjoy the journey without frustration. Another notable strength is the game's pacing. New locations, characters, quests, and rewards are introduced regularly, ensuring that the adventure never feels stagnant. The steady flow of objectives keeps players motivated while the achievement system offers additional goals for completionists. Even though the campaign is not especially long, it delivers a complete and satisfying experience that respects the player's time. The game's simplicity may not appeal to everyone. Players looking for deep customization systems, complex storytelling, or highly strategic combat may find the mechanics somewhat basic. However, the game clearly prioritizes accessibility, comfort, and enjoyable progression over complexity. Within those goals, it performs exceptionally well and provides an experience that is easy to recommend to fans of casual RPGs and adventure games. Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1 succeeds by focusing on what it does best: creating a charming fantasy world filled with rewarding exploration, memorable quests, and a heartfelt story. Its approachable gameplay, engaging progression, and relaxing atmosphere make it a highly enjoyable adventure that captures the spirit of classic fantasy journeys without becoming overwhelming. For players seeking a light but satisfying role-playing experience, this title offers many hours of pleasant exploration and discovery. Rating: 9/10
I really like the Hero of the Kingdom series, but this is easily the weakest entry I've played and really wasn't worth the time I spent. 90% of this game is trying to guess which items you can safely sell so that you can replace your broken gear just so that gear can break again on the next screen, and the story (such as it is) has zero effort put into it. If you don't see the singular plot twist coming within the first 10 minutes of the game, it's only because you lost track of the story while trying to replace your gear for the umpteenth time. This was an absolute waste of money, especially compared to the main series, and even if you liked those games you'd still be better off just replaying them than playing this one.
Kurz aber gut!
This is the first game in this series that i have played and i thought it was pretty cool. The whole time i was terrified i was going to run out of money and not be able to continue. Luckily i was able to scrape by barely the whole game and get to the end with 4 gold left. The only reason i managed to 100% this game was because at the end i sold everything i had to just pass 750 gold. A fun adventure, neat short story, good graphics, and relaxing. At some point i'll have to play the other games to see how they are.
