Follow my curator page for more recommendations!
I was really looking forward to trying this, it looked like an indie successor to the original Deus Ex, and in some ways it succeeded and it's clear it's made by ambitious people, but this isn't ready to be sold and it's almost unplayable. I hate to leave such a harsh review, but it's unacceptable how buggy and broken this is for a $15 game that isn't even in Early Access. I will say that it's clear this is made by very ambitious people and I'm surprised this was at all possible on this engine, though I think the engine is also the reason why it's so buggy. I'd love to see what the devs could make on something like Unity or Godot. I like that the levels seem very open-ended with multiple paths. All of the weapons I saw seemed well-animated (including partial and full reload animations!). I was excited to see a Pancor Jackhammer in the trailer (though it's clipping way too much into the screen every time they fire it). I love that you can interact with TONS of stuff (most don't have interact prompts but you can still turn on faucets, flush toilets, etc.). I love that you can pick up quite a few physics objects and toss them around. You guys put a lot of good details into the levels. I can tell the devs had plenty of good ideas here, but the rest of what I have to say is going to be pretty negative. This game is a mess and desperately needs updates. It is absolutely insane how awful this runs on a 5080 and 9800X3D. I'm getting at most 50 fps with everything low. If I try enabling most of the other graphic settings it drops to 7fps. I even tried using a forked, slightly newer version of VkDoom to see if it'd fix anything, but no luck at all. The movement is HORRIBLY sluggish and delayed, it takes ages to start moving in another direction. You start the game running very slowly, and sure you can upgrade the Agility skill to go faster, but it doesn't remove the delay when changing directions, or how slippery it all feels. Regarding the rest of the controls, it doesn't quite feel like there's raw mouse input, maybe some smoothing or something? You can't pick up bodies like you could in Deus Ex, but enemies can still spot them and get alerted so you're kinda SOL if someone dies in a bad spot. Another control quirk I noticed is if a body is next to something else interactable like a door, you can't search the body, it'll just keep opening/closing the door instead (btw it drove me nuts how quickly doors will auto-close in your face). Until you level up each firearm type you basically can't hit a single thing unless you're point blank. Your bullets spread out almost toward the edges of the screen rather than anywhere near the crosshair. At one point I tried firing at some terrorists who had hostages, but my bullets of course missed and hit the ceiling or something way off and that caused the hostages to just run away and leave the building while the terrorists still stood there not caring or alerted whatsoever that their hostages are gone. I then managed to hit one and they still didn't care. The view distance for NPCs is extremely short. The very first minute of the game will show that off, with you starting 15 steps away from a group of terrorists, and neither them nor the polce you're standing next to seem to care about each other. Once you get close enough the terrorists will begin firing at you yet the cops still don't care unless one of the terrorists runs too close. The audio is constantly stuttering, crackling, and cutting out. I've never seen a game somehow make all Windows audio (including other programs like Discord voice chat) cut out frequently. It behaved like my headphones were being repeatedly disconnected/reconnected. It happens when you first launch the game, when you start a new save or load one, and frequently while in menus, especially the inventory. It happened four times just during the intro cutscene! They're using really, really badly AI-generated voices for every character. I get that for a couple indie devs it'd be really difficult to get voice actors for all these NPCs, but I'd rather just hear the devs voice every character themselves so they can actually pronounce things and read lines with the right emotions as intended, unlike the AI. Given all the issues I've encountered in just an hour-ish of playing (Steam didn't track my playtime while trying the forked version of VkDoom), I have to wonder if they also used AI for coding portions of the game. The UI is a bit rough, the way you bind weapons to your hotbar is clunky, and you can't just drag and rotate items in your inventory with your mouse, you have to right click and choose to move or rotate from the dropdown menu. Also a lot of text is cut off, see the whole right side of the inventory screen here: https://i.imgur.com/V7cNjf4.png And yes, that's the entire game window, it cuts off the text in that box bottom right. The other positive reviews are very suspicious, one of them is total nonsense, praising the "swaying textures of people during applause." There are people applauding in the very first cutscene but their textures are not "swaying" at all. Another positive review is just a thumbs up emoji yet they refunded, and another is by an account that has somehow never reviewed any other game on Steam, just this one. That's always a red flag for fake reviews. I can't even recommend this for the $1.79 it was just on sale for. I would only recommend this if the dev patched out all of these issues, but I doubt they will since the game hasn't seen an update since July 2025.

A nice nostalgic game in terms of gameplay and visuals, but it still needs a lot of polish before its full release. You take the role of an agent who’s apparently the only one who can stop global terrorist threat. There’s a nice amount of text with various characters, but the story isn’t really that unique. Besides, it is more important how it plays. In short, it feels like a missing mod or a tribute to the original Deus Ex game. Shooting requires patience. To hit the target exactly where you want, you need to focus by allowing four arrows to move near to the central dot. Crouching makes this go faster. However, the range is still limited, and you cannot snipe headshots with a handgun. That is, even if you have a flawless shot, you might still miss badly. Melee weapons can also focus. While targeting is not important in a direct fight, you can take out an enemy with a single hit if you attack from behind. In combat, the damage you sustain matters. While a wounded head and torso induce only minor disorientation, injured arms and legs reduce your efficiency. So a hurt arm will limit your capacity to focus, while a hurt leg will limit your ability to sprint. There is a separate health panel that allows you to heal each bodily part individually. One of the four bars displays health. The remaining three bars represent armor, stamina, and visibility. Stamina is just needed for running; it does not hinder you from spamming melee attacks. However, visibility is problematic. Crouching is the most effective strategy to move about because it keeps you hidden. The worst are jumping and sprinting, which draw everyone's attention right away. The issue is that you never know how well the enemy sees you. This produces strange circumstances in which you sneak a few feet away from an attacker who looks right at you and acts as if you are invisible. Then you release the crouch button, and he immediately notices you and starts shooting. Although stages and situations allow for either a direct or stealth approach, stealth is less appealing because shooting is simply more effective. You can save at any point and try again if something does not work, but each failed stealth attempt results in a shootout anyway. Taking out enemies using stealth is inconvenient because they do not walk in a straight line. They are always twitching and looking in all directions, so hitting them in the back with a baton is out of the question because you would always be noticed. Besides, enemies don’t act smart even during shootouts. They run around for no apparent reason, and they hardly bother to shoot at you. There are several objectives per stage, and you earn experience points for completing them. You also get points for finding hidden paths such as vents or take care of secondary missions that you need to find. Sadly, there are no waypoints. This is painful in a big city stage where you have a bunch of streets and no orientation. Experience points allows you to upgrade skills. It’s pretty standard stuff, such as faster targeting with different weapons, less time spent on lockpicking, and faster movement. You can upgrade and downgrade freely. Interaction buttons are used to open doors, pick up items, and use stuff. When you get close to useful goods, they get a large square around them, making them difficult to overlook. Aside from the most useful goods, it is possible to pick up and throw most small objects, such as chairs and flower pots. This also works with some heavy things, albeit they can only be dragged and pulled across the floor. You will need to manage your inventory because space is limited. The larger the item, the more squares it will require. The only thing that does not take up space is keys that are automatically added to your keychain. This eliminates the need to worry about using the correct key on the appropriate door. Of course, if you do not want to search for a key, you can always try to pick a lock with a lock pick or hacking machine. However, such item can only be used once. Sadly, not all doors can be opened. Overall, this might turn into a fine game. It will appeal to those who can ignore or appreciate the visual and old-school gameplay. However, it needs better enemy behavior and more visual hints on certain maps on points of interest.
Game plays like a worse Deus ex with a nonsense plot and bad gameplay. The maps are to big with nothing to do in them and you can get lost. Game also can crash easily. 0 stars
Stylized to look like an old-school game The engine is interesting, allows you to interact with the game world in different ways, but the artificial intelligence of the NPCs leaves much to be desired
it's just good. the graphics are nostalgic, the story and the variability of the gameplay show that the game is made with love. even such little things as the swaying textures of people during applause are taken into account and are pleasing. add achievements and collectible cards and it will be super cool.
nice game, like shooting
