Playing this game is like a remaster and redo of my childhood. It brings me back to being 8 years old with my first X-box. The subtle difference in script and cutscenes go to show the increase in lore and technology in the past two decades. I have such nostalgia playing, it hits me how far I've come as a person and as a gamer. Halo: CE was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen as an 8 year old playing with my friends. Now, I sit here at 33 with a full family and career and have been taken back with renewed excitement. Just like playing it when I was a child. The only difference is I'm an adult with adult money. Halo has been such a massive part of my growing up, I can't even express in words. My Master Chief helmet from the legendary edition Halo 3 sets proudly on display in my living room which my wonderful wife allows. This remaster has been a nostalgic, fun ride back to the core of where my love for this world first began. And it has brought new and fun tweaks to dialog and cutscenes that will make long time fans sit back and contemplate their journey.
A solid remake that was hard as hell on Legendary. It has some issues you can tell it needed to cook a bit longer but was rushed out so it wouldn't have to compete against GTA 6. But overall, it was a good game and worth the price. I had a lot of fun replaying Halo CE and recommend it to anyone who likes a good first-person shooter with a good story. The extra missions were a lot of fun and the space combat was too we need more of this. The biggest issue I ran into was getting hit by invisible plasma weapons because they weren't rendering properly. Also, a weird bug: every time I remapped the melee key and restarted the game, it changed back to default, even though all my other key binds saved perfectly. After replaying the bonuses mission more the story is dumb overall and the level design is repetitive. The wow factor and replay are non existent. I still like the game but it more 7.0 then 7.8 like I originally thought
Solid Return To Form, But Not Worth The Early Access, 7.5/10
Note: If you buy on Steam the premium version of this game for early access, first order of business, after you install the game, uninstall Digital art book. There are plenty of forms out now that will give you a step-by-step on how to do that. Ok, now you can play the game lol. I'm not going to rant about the day one technical issues, but I do feel some compensation/discount should be given to early access players. Especially since we paid $20 extra dollars for a already pricey Remake, for only 5 days of early access and some skins (with a lot of day one issues). But, enough said about that...
Bonus Missions
Should I play the bonus missions first or last? Definitely last. The bonus mission are kind of meant to give the player something to do after the main campaign is over. A standalone story, and honestly for players familiar with the Halo sandbox. Are the Bonus Missions Any good? The bonus missions are fun, but kind of cheesy. Like something the Dev team cooked up one week to get the creative juices flowing, but ended up into full development. A narrative driven firefight, if you will, with a space combat section. Not bad, just nothing to spectacular. I only have one point of criticism. While I like the banter between Chief and Sgt. Johnson. The only term I can come up with is 'Chatty' Chief. Boy, that man can talk. I think Chief had more dialog in the first bonus mission, than the whole Halo franchise. To the point, I about fell off my chair laughing when Johnson delivered the line, "Chief. You ever get tired of being the almost silent type?" Well enough said about the bonus missions...
Thoughts On the Main Campaign
The game looks stunning! Most things upgraded or changed largely to fan feedback, making this game a true return to form on visuals and quality-of-life improvement from the original game. Quality- Very impressive visual, atmosphere, and overall feels like a proper Remake of the game. Although some animations are unfinished or straight up missing, like swapping seat in a vehicle. Some character expressions do not match the emotions of their dialog in most cutscenes. I don't feel the same urgency of the situation as the OG game conveys. A Remake or Remaster?- Definitely a Remake. Large part of the game has been changed. Some cutscenes and dialog either changed, added, or removed. Removed? Yes, sadly some dialog or entire cutscenes removed or replaced. Which I have mix feelings toward. Improvements- Largely in redundant mission. Major one is the Library. I can honestly say the Library mission is now enjoyable and has replayability to me.
Overall Thoughts
A proper remake of the original game that started it all, but with a few nitpicks or disappointing changes. Halo Studios truely did try to respect the original design, while adding improvements and new ideas, creating a fresh look and feel to a game that is close to the hearts of many, including myself. Nowhere near perfect, but headed in the right direction.
mostly great and a fun time, but, plasma grenades need to be brighter for a better visual que that one has been thrown, the sniper feels weak (and is fairly weak at least above normal mode) and as of writing this im currently on keyes and have crashed 7 times even after dropping all visual settings and havent even made it to the point you drop through the hole. Really fun but wtf. now at 9 crashes
hello campaign evolved
Pretty fun, and goofy remake of the Original CE. I beat it on Normal and it matches up to the original on PC (Yes, I still have the original CE, yee haw). I love the new voice actors and will try to find all the new skulls! With that being said, I have beaten the game before it's official release. Which is something. I wish you all the best of luck! And Spartans never die.
This is a great remaster for the original halo, all weapons feel viable even on legendary difficulty cutscene's and gameplay look beautiful, dialogue can be a little funny but the voice acting is still great. If you like halo you'll love this game only downside is you will need a highspec PC to run optimally.
