The games buggy af, the bonus missions are wayyyy too long especially with Johnson shooting the back of my skull everynow and then. The bonus missions is just a 45 min long misssions with nothing but reused assets. But still a fun game nonetheless. I hear a lot of complaints about the female odst but lets be fr the books and the fall of reach movie/book show just how much the odst and spartans dont get along. The way johnson and chief interact in bonus missions and how they interact in the main campaign contrast like crazy. They shouldve kept it like how they interacted back in original if they were gonna put a prequel. The gravity feels wack and driving feels wack. And last but not least the sprint, the sprint is an interesting addition to the game and im not completely against it but it very much does break the game. Like playing in legendary its way too easy to just skip most the mission just running past the enemies. I honestly would rather just play mcc. You can never go wrong with the original, voice acting us just better in the original i.e. johnson and captain keyes.
This game is a mess. Between the outsourcing to reportedly about 15 different studios and it shows. Everything felt off about it, from the guns and the AI to the cutscenes. All throughout it for every moment that made me go "huh, that's neat" or "oh I don't mind that change", there were at least two more that made me question what the devs were thinking. I'd go over all my problems but this would be multiple paragraphs. There were some cool additions, like hiding skulls throughout the levels and *some* of the cutscene changes, but overshadowed by damn near everything else. Just get Halo Master Chief Collection. This isn't worth the $50
not great
TL;DR Remake is good, don't listen to the haters. Campaign Evolved takes the Combat Evolved campaign and fixes most of the pain points of the original. There are less repeated interior rooms, the back half of the campaign has had a major revamp to make the repeated levels feel unique. The Library is actually good now, etc. However, it isn't perfect. Cortana's voice lines kind of suck now. She handholds more than the original, even on the higher difficulties. PC performance isn't perfect. Bugs are present (like Active Camo not really working as of August 1st 2026), and the new missions are hit or miss. Most of the complaints from others are really just nitpicks that are being blown out of proportion, and even my complaints don't really detract from the experience. If the price is good to you, then give Campaign Evolved a try. Edit: If I had to give this game a number score, it'd be a solid 8/10.
Game so fun i crashed and froze 4 times while trying to make this game more better with mods!
I would just play the original, it still holds up.
Just play MCC. This isn't it
This is time,it s really over ♥♥♥♥ Microsoft
The best part about the game is the art, the visuals and technical work than went into making it all. I cannot overrstate how good the game can look when maxed out with some well-tweaked settings (courtesy of Ultra+). It can genuinely be a marvel to look at. The middling parts of the game are the fact that the underlying gameplay engine is basically that of Halo: Reach, and that much of the game is... Mostly similar to Bungie-era Halo games if not downright identical (The original game's soundtrack). The soundscape is ok, but not as polished and well balanced as it could be. Some combat scenario design can feel a bit off at times, which one might hope could've been focused on given this is a remake. The recast voice actors are fine, and the re-recorded voice lines of the returning cast mostly serve the same purpose, though whether for better or worse is mostly subjective. The bad parts... Well, it's difficult to summarize. No multiplayer, the bonus missions mostly miss the mark when it comes to being a value add (while also having little to no context with the main game), the pre-rendered cutscenes have some bafflingly unconvincing sections which definitely required more work (and, to be honest, better directing and storyboarding) and, once again, this was yet another Halo game developed mostly by developers who will not be staying on to work on future games, same as it was with Halo: Infinite, Halo 5 and Halo 4. Finally... There's just no getting around it - this game, on its own, doesn't offer much beyond its visuals and gameplay-reuse-refresh compared to The Master Chief Collection. Most damningly of all (though this is entirely personal of me), I would have preferred Halo 5 would've been fully ported to PC.
EDIT: I have never posted a review before, but for the love I have for this franchise, it just felt like I needed to say something. TLDR: Steer clear, just play MCC with the Ruby's Halo: RELOADED mod and you'll get most of the experience that this has to offer without all the brain trauma. I would have accepted this game is it was maybe 30$ and as far as I can see, all you're realistically getting is a shiny coat of paint (and boy is it shiny... people with astigmatisms watch out), a retuned sandbox, layout changes to the missions and "quality of life and modern gaming feature". I would be very hard pressed to say that this game has done anything particularly well that aren't all pieces that were taken from every other Bungie game. Between what changes were made with the original campaign and the absolute joke that are the 3 new bonus mission: is that this game looks gorgeous, from a pure fidelity perspective. Generic, sci-fi game, but gorgeous. However, like sprint, like QoL, they aren't what make games fun and enjoyable. I'm also not convinced there's a good argument to be made that any of the Halo Studios games look better than Halo 3, short of the lack of polygons and dated textures, Halo 3 absolutely blows this game out of the water, but I guess, more eye candy? Line dialogue delivery is often very awkward, has no weight to it, and worse than the original delivery. In the bonus missions, most of it utterly unbearable, cutscenes seem poorly acted, constant audio desyncing issues, terrible scripting (both the voice acting and the programming kind), and truly cements that 343 (erm, acktually, halo studios), has no idea with these characters. Soundtracks are from previous games are recycled and queued in in such inappropriate and bizarre moment, repetitively looping in obnoxious and infuriating ways, weapons feel anemic and a far cry of the crisp refinement that we saw over years of Bungie games, weird animation locks, reused assets from previous Bungie titles and worse AI. The best way I can describe it is it all just feels like a terribly put together kit bash of someone else's ideas forced into UE5 tacked on with some "modern features". But hey the water looks good. I guess. There are pockets of goodness in this remake but so much of it marred by the fact that you didn't do most of the work. You copied someone else's homework, used different ink, different paper, replaced some words by looking up synonyms in a thesaurus, rubber stamping it and called it yours. This game is a hollow shell of the what it's attempting to remake and is a worse version of it in almost every way, made by a team that has no idea what their doing with the IP and will continue to forever drive this franchise into the ground until there is nothing left of it but dust and echoes. I was really hoping there was going to be something here, literally anything, but all I am left with is apathy and absolutely no hope for the future of this franchise. The only reason why I will be continuing to play this game is almost certainly some form of Stockholm syndrome and a compulsion to 100% the achievements. Also the MCC MP achievements are a drag send help please.
