game has a very hard time with bugs and player connection
Story mode is great, multiplayer is good but has a ton of bugs and some balancing needs to be done. I think the game could of used some more time before being rereleased. Overall, its a fun game but the devs have lot of work to do regarding bug fixes. Keep in mind, this review is during the early access.
I'm mixed on this game. At its highs it can be very fun and gives old F13 feelings, but at its lows it becomes a mess (especially the dumbass NPCs). Although, I would say don't give up on it yet and to let the devs publish their patches and continue refining the game. I would give it a 7.5/10 in its current state.
Honors the original Halloween IP with its atmosphere, audio, and pacing. Game is still early access so there are some bugs, but they are being addressed quickly by the devs. Fans of Friday the 13th or other asym horror games are very likely to hop in and have a great time.
Halloween
Not the absolute BEST but it is as good as it needs to be. Glad to see a game very similar to F13 make a return.
So far I would consider this a failure as a successor to the Friday the 13th game. In so many aspects it seems like this game has taken a step back. To me, this game feels like its trying waaaaaay to hard to be something its not. I have high hopes for this game as a competitor to Dead by daylight in the future however. As I saw the Friday the 13th game as the only true rival they ever had. As it stands right now, this game feels "hollow". The Npcs are annoying, the map is way to big, objectives are unclear and there are too many quick time events. Especially for Myers. I shouldn't have to perform a quick time event to preform a kill. Friday the 13th and this game has counters in the form of pocket knives, ice pics to counter being grabbed. So I don't understand this change in design. I'd like to see 8 player lobbies again on smaller maps. The chaos was part of the charm. Now? The matches go on forever. I'll escape or die and be sitting spectating doing essentially nothing for 10 minutes. At the end of the day it is a horror game and Myers should have the power. He shouldn't be struggling to catch up to a survivor in the middle of the street. The game isn't also preforming all that well on my end, constant lagging, frame drops and generally bad audio. To me, this game has potential and I really do want to see it succeed. Right now in its current state for the price they're asking I personally can't recommend it. Which is a shame since I was really excited for this title. I know this studio probably aren't to ecstatic about this Ip since their love was for Friday the 13th franchise, but this game just feels like its lacking "Soul".
This is the most fun I've had with an asymm in a long time. Reminds me of the F13 glory days. It's great fun, but there are currently some issues. -Push to talk is not working -some challenges are bugged and can't make progress There are more, but those are the ones I experienced. Would it have been nice to work perfectly on early access launch? Sure. But ultimately they're minor in my experience, and I'm confident they'll be patched soon.
What a waste of a great IP. IllFonic keeps getting handed licenses that should be perfect for asymmetrical multiplayer games, and somehow the games keep launching feeling like they needed a lot more time. Halloween is incredibly buggy, has major performance problems, balance issues, clunky movement, clunky controls, and a bunch of little areas where you can clearly see corners were cut. The graphics and overall fidelity especially don’t inspire much confidence. For a PC game built heavily around multiplayer and VOIP, there are also way too many basic options missing. Audio routing, chat controls, input and output options, and other settings you would expect in a PC multiplayer game in 2026 just aren’t where they should be. The balance is already concerning too. Once survivors know what they’re doing, Michael can feel like he’s at a massive disadvantage. Players figure out the strongest mechanics, optimize the meta, grind it into the ground, and suddenly the game starts leaning heavily one way. That seems to be the curse of these asymmetrical games. The community finds the broken or optimal way to play faster than developers can keep up with balancing it. And that’s the bigger problem here. This feels like another game that probably needed months more development and balancing than the license, contract, budget, or release schedule allowed. That’s unfortunate because this genuinely could have been something special. There is absolutely room for another major asymmetrical horror game besides Dead by Daylight, which has been carrying and milking that space for years. But this isn’t it right now. And I definitely don’t see a $60 Deluxe Edition game here. Honestly, even if a lot of the bugs and performance problems were fixed, I’m not convinced what’s here feels like a $30 game. Great IP. Great potential. Nowhere near ready.
