Really cool concept. (from deathbattle cast!)
not even a half hour in and couldnt click on anything. the game its self would be fine, nothing crazy. but the bugs need to be fixed still. sadly a let down.
"Guilded" is a low key asset flip, a bunch of other people's assets assembled badly to make a basic game, typically this kind of thing is done by amateur developers without sufficient budget, talent and/or staff to do the job of game development professionally. It's then quickly rushed into Steam Direct. And, unsurprisingly, this never results in a product with any quality, interest, or value for gamers. In fairness some effort went into making some kind of game out of this... sort of. At face value it's a "tycoon-lite" game where you manage adventurers and send them off on timegated "adventures" (accompanied by a very lame minigame). The whole thing does come across as, and play like, a monetised mobile app not all that different in terms of core game loop than games like Fallout Shelter (but this is much worse). However, weirdly, the developer deliberately capped the game at only 2 months... why would they do this? Well, the only reasonable answer is that they intended to release more of the game, but paygate it... making this a demo, or in other words, an advertisement for a paid product which doesn't even exist. Now, why would that be of value for gamers? The answer is simple; it isn't. Advertising spam is bad for everyone, and it's done for the sake of greed. So, the game might look better than you'd expect from an amateur project, but this is because it's partially or completely made up of stock assets, "borrowed" from asset stores and free asset websites. Very little in this game is truly the creation of the "developer", it's just a bunch of rearranged assets. While there's no up front price for this asset flip, the other problem with asset flips is that when developers aren't capable of doing their job and creating high quality assets, it's also true they can't do any of the rest of the job of a game developer either. That's definitely true for "Guilded". This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. As an advertisement, this is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's important to understand there's a formal process to create a demo/page for a game which hasn't been followed here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos While it might seem like an inocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Nope. There's no up front cost here, but I still feel like I should be asking for my money back, and I didn't even spend any. That's how bad this is.
Tip: This is not the chat app of the same name Review: Made my PC explode with how high of my CPU and Memory it was taking. 10/10 Will explode another PC with this
Nice concept and design. A little more work is required to resolve some of the display bugs.
Basically, there is a lack of polish to the gameplay which leads to a boring experience. The interface doesn't have a strong flow at all which makes the very, very simplistic gameplay loop a bit awkward. The graphics were what made me give it a try. I liked the twitter, too, but while the classes are really cool, its kinda hard to get too far into. Specifics: -I hate waiting for the animation to finish after an embark. Let me skip that last part, it makes it so awkward. -The quest/chat system are okay. Looks like a lot of time went into it for a little extra flourish that most games don't need. There are typos. The amount of "Frederick looked around." is a bit much. -Looking at my characters abilities and levels is tedious because there is no quick way to compare them. I don't even mean like a fast tool tip, but there is no details stats menu where you can quickly move between the pages of the adventurers. I have to close the window and go physically find the other adventurer (if I recognize them, which I never do because all characters look alike.) and then separately view their stats. I tried using the adventurer page for saying what they should do on their off days, but had its own issues. Like, nothing will happen if that adventurer is on a quest. I need some feedback, otherwise the game looks broken. -For some reason I can't pan 50% of the time. -Progression is a bit boring. I'll achieve the 3k in a few days but I have a month to do it. I finished the second achievement before the deadline for the first, so it would be nice to be able to achieve quests early.
