This is my first Steam review, which I have never done because I've never thought about it, but this game is SO utterly awful, I HAVE to leave a review. (scroll to the bottom for quick answer) I love tactical games, and "SOF" themed stuff. I started playing this game around 2024 (which I think was early v1034, but idr), and thought it was pretty fun and cool. It was different, and kinda nice because there's not that many games that focus on tactics and real stuff, that isn't just another CoD or Battlefield. The game felt very bland, the missions were kinda boring (still are), the performance was AWFUL (still is), and the gameplay felt pretty clunky and VERY stiff compared to others (still does). The game was alright none the less, and the mods and modding community legit carried the game for me (still kinda do). That was until late v1034/ early v1035, where things started to get worse and worse, VERY quickly. Updates rarely happened, maybe once every 3-4 months (if that), and were EXTREMELY dry. To the point where a "great new update" was simply a couple of bug fixes, a menu glitch fix, and MAYBE a new gun. Then v1035 came out, which looked pretty good before hand, but was horrible when it actually did release. The game felt worse, (which I can't even really explain how, it just did), and there wasn't that much new content, nor could you feel the "improvements" they said they made. Those update patterns and blandness remained until they announced v1.0. I got so excited, (because I want this game to be good), and it looked awesome. It was so hyped up, and it looked like this update might genuinely make the game playable and fun again. But it didn't, not even close. The game isn't necessarily worse, but not better either. The new content is kinda cool, the ready room is pretty sick, the re-done missions look somewhat better, and the new animations are pretty decent. BUT, and big but. The game is still, HORRIFIC imo. The game runs at 90-100-ish FPS on the training map, and 50-60 FPS on 90% of the missions, WITHOUT ReShade, on MEDIUM GAH DAM SETTINGS. I can run the Port mission (with the rain and containers) on Ready or Not, with a medium/ heavy ReShade preset, with High/ Ultra graphics at 90-110 FPS. The devs said the new update brought a bunch of optimizations, but I PROMISE YOU it didn't. I've tried every rendering option, every graphics option, game still runs like shi. The game also still feels CRAZY clunky and stiff, and IS NOT rewarding to play with. It LITERALLY feels worse than MODDED RAVENFIELD (the low effort battlefield copy), and for sure feels the worst out of any similar genre game I've played (or ANY shooter game for that matter). The devs don't really add anything players want (if they do it's minute, modders are better), and rarely EVER fix bugs that players complain about. All in all, when I purchased this game, I thought it was fairly new. I didn't know it had been in development for 6 YEARS when I got it (now in development for 8, maybe even longer idk). The game says it's now in 1.0, but it IS NOT. This game IS STILL IN DEVELOPMENT, even if the devs tell you it isn't (there's isn't even a full campaign yet, just prologue). This game gets worse every update, the devs take their sweet time, and there are MUCH better options now (Operator, Ready or Not, Arma 3, etc) For crying out loud, a SINGLE dude built a game that is MILLIONS times better than this (and $10 cheaper), ALL by himself, IN ONE YEAR! (Operator). Case in point, DO NOT WASTE $30 ON THIS GAME (I can't even speak all my gripes in this review or it would be 5x longer). I would ONLY recommend this if you have a bunch of friends, absolutely need a break from your main "tactical game" rotation, or just have F**K money laying around.
Ground Branch does not feel ready for a 1.0 release. Once again, it feels like a game that has left Early Access far too soon, possibly for financial reasons. After years of small updates, ambitious announcements, and a long development cycle, the final result is, to put it mildly, underwhelming. At its core, Ground Branch is little more than a sandbox. There is no narrative thread, no meaningful context connecting missions, and no real sense of progression. You have access to everything from the start, so there are no rewards to work toward, no unlocks, and no reason to keep playing beyond creating your own scenarios. The weapon customization looks impressive at first, but much of it feels cosmetic rather than meaningful. Assault rifles with different calibers behave almost identically, which makes weapon choice largely irrelevant. Why choose something other than an M4 when most alternatives do not offer a distinct advantage or gameplay identity? In the end, it often comes down to pure “drip” rather than tactical decision-making. Ammunition is equally shallow: FMJ or tracer rounds. That is basically it. A tactical shooter in 2026 should offer considerably more depth here. The AI is another major problem. Enemies often seem to know exactly where the player is, making stealth and surprise nearly impossible. Even when approaching carefully, the surprise factor feels close to zero. This removes much of the tension and planning that should define a tactical shooter. The armor system is also extremely disappointing. Like many other systems in the game, it lacks the depth and detail that the genre demands. There is a solid foundation underneath Ground Branch, and its customization and sandbox potential are still appealing, but the 1.0 label feels more like a joke than a finished milestone. Maybe comparing it directly to Escape from Tarkov is unfair, but a game that calls itself a tactical shooter should be far more developed by 2026. Ground Branch had years to turn its promising concept into a deep and rewarding experience. Instead, it feels unfinished, shallow, and far behind what its genre competitors offer.
It would be a complete disservice to recommend this game to anyone in its current state. This is NOT a "1.0" release by any stretch of the imagination. A "1.0" release means something - it means the game is complete in terms of features and content. Ground Branch is not complete in either category at this time. The campaign (if you can call it that) consists of two (2!) missions total. There are no AI teammates. Enemy AI are either completely braindead or have super-human senses, reflexes and aim. There is no health or healing system at all. The armor system is so rudimentary that I even hesitate to call it a "system." The so-called "realistic" weapon sway is so poorly implemented and over-tuned that it feels like our Tier 1 operator is a recovering alcoholic who hasn't had a drink in a week. He's a trembling mess after holding a rifle at the ready for 30 seconds, making accurate enemy engagements nearly impossible. Character movement feels, slow, clunky and unwieldy, with our character bumping into every corner and snagging on every doorframe and random objects in CQB environments. In a nutshell, the game is still very much an "Early Access" game, which was rushed to this deceiving "1.0" state, likely to generate some emergency cash flow. Make no mistake, to call this a "1.0" release is a slap in the face to the gaming community and other hard working game developers. Did I mention that this game has been in development for nearly a decade? To give you some context, Gray Zone Warfare is currently in Early Access - version 0.4.6. It has about 30-40 times more content, fully realized, advanced armor, health and healing systems, dynamic weather, much more realistic weapon ballistics and handling, a massive open world, highly-detailed, beautifully designed, diverse environments - the list goes on and on. And Gray Zone Warfare is still 2-3 years away from a "1.0" release. That's how you build a proper tactical shooter. That's how you do Early Access.
Tasted operator and this can't compare.
Disappointing 1.0 release. I personally cannot recommend the game
This game is not 1.0, no matter what the devs say. Stay away until it is proper, fundamental mechanics and gameplay is fine. It's just not 1.0 worthy so to speak.
这1.0正式版的神人更新神人大小神人宣发竟然还有孝子护?你玩家社区不铁板一块就算了还要圈地自萌威胁开盒其他发表不同言论的玩家?BYD你图腾战术看多了吧
Great game, but you need to make the AI shoot for center mass instead of headshots 100%. I take no hits in a match and live. Anytime I'm shot it is a 100% death chance. Reprogram your ♥♥♥♥, go to a gun range, and actually fire some real firearms, because it's very clear you nerds don't own firearms. The AI reaction time far exceeds human abilities. Edit: THIS is your 1.0 launch? Sure, there are improvements (ESPECIALLY to the AI, thank you for that), but my gods this is a janky release. Bugs for days and untested changes to mechanics and gunplay. This game is not ready for 1.0. It's late Beta at best. Loving the new additions of guns and a few attachments; stellar work. Still a ton of fun, but I gotta maintain criticism where it's due.
The 1.0 Update is a Joke, this wasn't an update, it's just pushing a broken product to the finish line. I love this game, It fits a niche no other game really does, but you can tell this update was just pushed to the door as soon as possible. The devs claim the AI is now realistic, and how they will properly react to you, that is a full on lie. the AI is both insanely stupid, and insanely cracked. they will see you in the pitch black of night, fire one shot across a map, and kill you instantly. the operations mode is disappointing, if not bad. It's just placing a few guys on a map and slapping some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ objective on it, no different then the free play mode, and it's not even finished. why call this 1.0, if the main mode you add, isn't completed? The new guns they added, 5 of them are AK variants (so really 2 guns if you say the AK and RPK are different) and a pump shotgun. for a 1.0, I'd expect more variation. If you told me this was V1037, I'd say this was a decent update that added a good amount of stuff, but as a 1.0 release? It's a joke.
So disappoint to this version. trash gunplay, gun recoil is so high even worse than Beta. Bots are so hard, they can one shot ur full armor but I need at least five shots to kill them. There are so many bugs, too. The storage is reaching 100 GB, it used to be 30-40GB
