It's alright, I guess, The controls are hard to get used to, and the tutorial is very confusing. When the game starts you have no money until you learn where everything is. The problem is that even though there are beams of light to show you where to go, you can't see them through the walls, so I was forced to go back to top down mode just to figure out where my next objective is, remember the location, and move there in first person mode. At least it's free, but you get what you pay for.

I liked how quickly I could see the results of my decisions. The store layout is the part I enjoyed most. I have to think about where shelves, checkout areas and other objects should go while making sure customers can actually move around the shop comfortably. Keeping everything organized makes the store feel more efficient, and I liked having a visible connection between how I arrange the building and how smoothly the business operates. Managing employees adds another useful layer. I can hire workers and assign them to different jobs, but their happiness matters too. Their preferred jobs, desired wages and workload all affect how satisfied they are, and unreliable workers can even cause problems when they do not show up. I liked this because employees feel more like part of the management system rather than simple upgrades. Customers also give me plenty to think about. Keeping the shelves stocked, reducing the time customers spend waiting and having a charismatic cashier all contribute to satisfaction. I enjoyed balancing these different concerns because improving one part of the store often means thinking about several other parts at the same time. The progression is another strong point. I can unlock new item types, placeables, management tools, employee capacity and store expansions as I gain experience through working, passive progress and bonus objectives. I liked having several ways to advance because it means I am not forced to focus on one activity for the entire experience. My biggest issue is that the early store setup can feel a little repetitive. There are plenty of management tasks, but many of them revolve around the same basic cycle of stocking, cleaning, serving and expanding. I also found that some systems can feel more complicated than they need to be, especially when I am first learning what the game expects from me. Overall, Grocery Store Tycoon First Store is a fun and approachable management simulator that made running a small shop more enjoyable than I expected. I liked arranging the store, managing employees and gradually unlocking better tools and expansions. It could use more variety in the long term, but the basic business loop is satisfying and the free price makes it an easy recommendation for management game fans. Rating: 6.9/10
