10 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1938212032
Greed: The Mad Scientist gets a tepid recommendation - it's a short and fairly simple Hidden Object Game in the usual mold, and apparently it's a re-release of an older game. It's a bit of a kludge in some ways, and it relies way too much on what another Steam reviewer calls "moon logic," and I leaned heavily on the Hint function because really, how on earth are we supposed to think of some of this stuff. But somehow it's brisk and attractive enough to keep things pleasant. There are two kinds of collectible objects, and I have no idea if they work - there doesn't seem to be any function that let me view what I had collected, or track their numbers against the totals. My game told me there would be 50 radioactive objects (they are crunchy acid green, and thereby hard to miss) and I had nowhere near that number when the game ended; checking around I found a YouTube video that shows a version where the number of radioactive objects is 14. I may have had 14, but I don't know. Like I say, it's a bit of a kludge. Still and all, it tells a preposterous story and mixes pleasant puzzles with occasional absurd fiddly ones, and that's what makes the world go round. Or something.

Sort of on the fence with this one. Very basic adventure + seek and find style game with a fairly thin story. It takes a few hours to complete and for the most part the puzzles are decent. Not great but decent. A few times the game will tell you that you need an item, a hose for example, and you'll have on in your inventory but it won't be the right hose. Its a hose for another puzzle and the hose you need is probably behind a door you haven't figured out how to open yet. Some puzzle solutions can not quite make sense and a few times the game did devolve into try every item on everything you haven't figured out yet. I like Adventure seek and find games, especially ones that are easy to jump in and out of and this one's not bad. I'll probably never play it again ever but for the price, especially on a sale, it was worth it.
I got this as part of a bundle and enjoyed it, despite the short runtime and overall lack of polish. The game’s setting is novel for a HOG, focusing on science and medicine rather than stock supernatural and fantasy tropes. The plotline is fairly well crafted and coherent (a rare case when it comes to these types of games) with a few shocking twists and surprises as events unfold. As you progress through the story you’ll collect evidence and diary pages in your journal which offer both puzzle clues and insight into Dr. Goodwin’s past. Your journal also contains a map, but it is just for reference and does not provide a fast travel option. On the first screen you’ll pick up an NPC companion who acts as your hint system. She’ll also react to certain story developments, but counterintuitively only the story beats that *don’t* directly relate to revelations about her or her brother. There are three levels of difficulty on which to play the game. The easiest allows you to skip hidden object screens and shows sparkles on anything of interest, while the hardest disables those features. There is also supposedly a difference in how well hidden the collectibles are, but that is untrue; the collectibles are in the same places regardless of difficulty. Speaking of collectibles, they were clearly implemented as an afterthought. Most of them are sitting right out in the open, almost unmissable, and they all trigger the hand icon. The radioactive elements are also florescent neon green, further making them too easy to spot to be a challenge. There is no menu screen to check your collection progress, but popup notifications as you find each item claim there are 50 total radioactive things and 20 awards. Those numbers are a typo. The newest release of the game (not available on Steam) corrects it to 14 and 7; however, I have not seen anyone find more than 6 trophies across all the walkthroughs and playthroughs on the web, so even the updated total may be bugged. There is no reward or incentive to find these collectibles other than personal pride at being a completionist. Note: If you notice the popup text getting cutoff along the side of the screen, you’ll need to go into the options and turn off the widescreen correction that is enabled by default. There are nine hidden object screens in the game, all with simple text-based clues. They provide a fairly decent challenge with how well the objects blend into the scene, but if you are looking for puzzles with combination objects, hidden caches, morphing objects, or other gimmicks to up the ante, this game might be too simplistic for you. There are also twelve minigames, all of which are riffs on genre standards, although a couple of them are challenging to even veteran players. Half of these minigames involve the core mechanic of “properly align a series of parts where moving one piece affects multiple other pieces,” but these somehow manage to each feel distinct from one another. Four more simply require you to follow the clues you’ve been given, and the last two are a memory matching game and a not-colorblind-friendly arranging game. One of the puzzles has incredibly poorly programmed controls, but is technically still beatable without skipping. Most of the object use puzzles in the game are intuitive, and usually give helpful feedback text when clicking with the gear icon. The few that are truly obtuse (or scientifically incorrect) in their reasoning can be figured out through ham-fisted trial and error using what is left in your inventory, so even on the hardest difficulty you shouldn’t need hints. (Hints do offer to take you to the screen with the next puzzle component, though, so you can keep that in mind if you get sick of backtracking.) After each major cutscene that affects the setting, new object use puzzles will unlock, and some items that weren’t previously able to be picked up will become available to take. Not all of these progressive changes are programmed correctly, though, causing the mouse icon to glitch or temporarily disappear when interacting with certain hotspots – minorly annoying, but not too impactful on puzzle progression. If an object use puzzle requires a combination of items, sometimes you will need to use each part separately in the correct sequence, and sometimes using one part will auto-use the corresponding parts. There is no rhyme or reason for this difference beyond obviously rushed programing. Additionally, a handful of the object use puzzles feel wasteful because the game does not allow you to hold onto and reuse common tools; so you either wind up carrying around multiple items that effectively all have the same function but can each only be used in one specific location (box cutter, scissors, etc.), or you are left scrambling for bizarre alternate solutions to similar puzzles because your character already discarded the most efficient tool for the job (using a reacher grabber vs. using a broken floor tile). It’s not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but inefficient adventuring puzzles happen to be one of my pet peeves. In summation, the game has a well composed and executed story, unique theming, decent graphics and voice acting, simple yet pleasantly brainteasing hidden object screens, a few challenging minigames, and mostly rational object use puzzles, but is dragged down by poorly implemented collectibles that add nothing of value to the gameplay, a lack of breadth in minigame types, numerous programming hiccups, a few head-scratching uses of inventory items, and a very short runtime of 2-3 hours maximum. I did have fun with it, enough to still recommend it, but I wouldn’t pay full price for this version.
Really poorly designed. You walk around with an inventory full of items, and when you use one it usually gives you three more. I'd be okay with this if the game wasn't heavily reliant on moon logic. I'm usually pretty forgiving of the hidden object genre because they're short, but I couldn't even be bothered to finish this.
Nice game for a quick fix on a Sunday morning. Very easy. Didn't require deep thought, but it was a diversion from reality. Purchased in a bundle deal for all three GREED games. Hope the others are a little more challenging but if not, that's o.k. Not every game is ment to tax the brain.
Genre
Ein Hidden Object Adventure
Story

Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
 Follow third group
I really enjoyed this straightforward, hidden object, adventure game. I had tired of hidden objects but these HOS (hidden object scenes) were done so well that I remembered what had once attracted me to the genre. The pace of the game is great as is the story, although the ending is a bit abrupt. I have purchased the other Greed games and look forward to them.
