especially as a solo experience, the progression from skill to general gameplay is actually pretty solid. it doesn't hold your hand, but you get just powerful enough and know how to deal with enemies enough that it has challenge & and satisfying gameplay loop. i will say it does have a slightly more challenging on-boarding experience when trying to convince friends to play with, as the difficulty ramps up with more players.
This game is a great take on the "friendslop" genre. The basebuilding could use more constructs and content but at the end of the day, the game just released. One thing I think would make the base building more worthwhile would be if something attacked your base with like a quest or an optional thing to get gold or scraps. I give the game a solid 6.5/10 right now but it can easily raise to an 8.5/10 given there is more support in the future.
this game makes me feel like im still in my hometown: full of danger, entities and tons of valuable items can be stolen. every night... i mean run is filled with chaos and endless oppurtunities. when you kinda reach the end game you dont feel scared or worried to go down that elevator cause you become the danger itself for entitites. 10/10 Adana Experince
It's not fun to play the multiplayer. The griefers come and destroy my house, grab my boxes and place them up above the building. YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE GAMEPLAY AND PROTECT THE PLAYERS AGAINST BULLING: THEY ALSO USE THE N WORDS. The game itself is funny when played offline. So I definitely recommend it.
It lacks a server browser or public matching/quickplay, some way to play pub games with randoms. You can only play with friends currently.
GRAINROT is probably one of the most approachable co-op extractor games I’ve played. I’m primarily a solo player, and games in this genre—especially ones like REPO—can sometimes feel pretty unforgiving when you’re playing alone. GRAINROT strikes a really nice balance. The enemies feel dangerous enough to make encounters exciting, but not so overwhelming that avoiding them is always your only realistic option. You can actually fight back and feel like you have a chance, which makes solo play much more enjoyable. I’ve also played with one friend, and obviously having another player makes things easier (and usually much more chaotic and entertaining), but I was pleasantly surprised by how viable the game feels solo. For a more casual player, that makes a huge difference. I’m also a big fan of the base upgrade system. Being able to improve your stats while also decorating your base makes progression feel meaningful. Compared to games where failing a run can mean losing a much larger chunk of your progress, GRAINROT gives you a satisfying sense that you’re still moving forward even when a mission goes sideways. The quests are another great addition. They give you clear goals to work toward and help keep the gameplay from becoming repetitive too quickly. Unlocking new cosmetic options as you explore also gives you that constant little feeling of, “Oh, cool, I got something new.” And I think the tone is handled really well. The gameplay and themes are silly enough to be genuinely fun without leaning so hard into the absurdity that the novelty wears off immediately. Overall, I think GRAINROT is a great example of what this genre can be. It’s challenging without being needlessly punishing, progression feels rewarding, and—most importantly for me—it actually makes solo play feel viable. I’m really enjoying it so far, and I hope the developers continue supporting it with updates. Definitely worth checking out if you like co-op extraction games but have found some of them a little too brutal to enjoy casually.
An enjoyable gameplay loop with a macabre vibe. I delight in squirting myself with glue and taking a sawblade to enemy monsters. Very fun with a friend (or three) while also being something I enjoy running solo. I'm a fan!
Too hard for beginners we tried so much and still cant complete a level because the monsters are troo strong and can lock you in a corner where you cant move and escape. The idea is nice but there is too much missing to make it a whole.
