It is disgusting that a big-corpo like BETHESDA chooses to associate themselves with this practice...

"Prologue", "Episode 0/1", "DEMO"....
All descriptions for the same thing: an incomplete game, released with it's own Store-Page Instead of releasing these ''demos'' on the same Store-page as their future title, they choose to have 2 store-pages instead of 1, hoping that this will ''increase their reach to a bigger audience'' - even if that goes at the cost of cluttering up the ''free to play'' tabs, making it harder to find actual GOOD F2P games. Worst part? Crypto-shell companies, Ai-slop farmers, triple-A studios and even good, honest - small indie devs are doing this. There are actual HARDWORKING DEVS out there who see this kind of sh!t, and come to the conclusion that the only way to compete, is to do the same scummy practice as the bigger, more popular fish out there! Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude is a **free visual novel** that exists purely to answer the question: > “What if instead of punching ghosts in first-person, we trauma-bonded with them through textboxes first?” You don’t play as Akito here—this is the **KK prequel**, a paranormal detective story about: * A grumpy ghost hunter * His squad of weird coworkers * And a series of disappearances that definitely aren’t solved with paperwork Think of it as the **prologue DLC**, except it’s standalone, free, and 80% vibes and lore. --- ### What You Actually Do * Click through dialogue * Choose responses like “professional investigator” or “sarcastic gremlin” * Learn way too much about Tokyo’s weird hauntings * Finish the whole thing in one sitting and go, “Huh. I like these idiots.” No action, no combat, just **anime art + spooky texting simulator**. --- ### Pros * **Free**. Zero yen. 100% discount lore. If you’re even *thinking* about buying Ghostwire: Tokyo, this is the “demo but make it character-driven.” * Surprisingly good writing: * KK is a tired, sarcastic disaster * His team has actual personalities * The banter feels like a cursed group chat you got accidentally added to * Your dialogue choices don’t flip the universe, but they *do* color how KK comes across—world-weary pro, reckless hothead, or “dad forced into unpaid overtime.” * Sets up the main game’s mystery without spoiling everything: masked guy, disappearing people, bad fog, Tokyo being 10/10 not okay. * Chill format. Zero jumpscares, just softly unsettling ghost stories and good music while you click and sip something. --- ### Cons * If you came here expecting **action**, you will instead receive **paragraphs**. This is a *visual novel*, not “Ghostwire Lite.” * No exploration, no first-person gameplay—just background art, character portraits, and your reading speed. * About 30–45 minutes long, depending on how quickly you read and how often you go “wait, let me re-check that line.” * Choices mostly change flavor, not fate. This is more “roleplay KK’s attitude” than “branching narrative galaxy brain.” * Will make you want the full game more, which is technically emotional marketing. --- ### Peak Prelude Moments * KK: *“I work alone.”* Team: immediately exists, talks over him, and drags him into yet another cursed errand. * Realizing half your job as a paranormal detective is just **client management**: > “Yes ma’am, the ghost stole your husband’s soul. No, I don’t offer refunds.” * Getting way too attached to side characters who you *know* are about to have a bad time once the main game starts. * Reaching the end and going: “So this entire free game was just: * backstory * foreshadowing * and bonding with a man who will later live rent-free in another guy’s body?” Correct. --- ### Should You Play It? * Planning to play **Ghostwire: Tokyo**? → Yes, absolutely. This is a free lore dump with personality. * Already played the main game? → Feels like a bonus episode about KK’s squad. Retroactive emotional damage included. * Hate reading and only like pressing left mouse to bonk? → Maybe watch a recap instead; this is more “short story” than “shooter.” --- **9/10** Free, short, and surprisingly charming—basically a ghostly character study with a side of Tokyo creepiness. Would once again boot it up “just to check it out,” finish it in one go, and immediately start judging KK’s life choices like I’m not the one playing a ghost detective visual novel for fun.
Nice extra backstory, but awful game. For a visual novel, the bare minimum quality of life isn't even here, No text history? seriously? Manually saving and reloading can only take you so far.

It is okay. A good little story to explain the events leading up to the main game.
