Can I still be entertained by VR wave shooters? I guess so! I got this game as part of a bundle, so I went into it expecting something awful… but was pleasantly surprised! The environments are all reminiscent of action movies, and it puts you in the role of fearless action movie star. You might find yourself roaring taunts and victory cheers… I did! It’s pretty tough at first, I was obliterated in the first level, but you get cash, buy better weapons, and return to stronger for your vengeance. After playing for around half an hour, I’ve already unlocked several great upgrades that turned the tide of battle. I personally don’t use the bullet-time feature much; I rely on being able to overpower the enemy with sheer firepower. Bottom line: It’s another action-packed wave shooter, but it’s well done, and worth a few bucks for a few hours of entertainment! Thumbs: UP!

"Frontline Heroes VR" is a low key asset flip, a bunch of other people's assets assembled badly to make a basic game, typically this kind of thing is done by amateur developers without sufficient budget, talent and/or staff to do the job of game development professionally. It's then quickly rushed into Steam Direct. And, unsurprisingly, this never results in a product with any quality, interest, or value for gamers. This is a pretty pointless asset flip.. I think maybe this is one of those cases where someone comes up with the completely unique idea that all they have to do to become a superstar billionaire game developer is rip off a bunch of Unreal Marketplace assets and arrange them haphazardly on a basic first person shooter game template and watch the money roll in. In this case you've got some very, very familiar zombie assets and a vague sci-fi themed couple of maps kitbashed once more out of various Unreal asset packs. If we were being generous, we could call this a glorified VR tech demo, but the quality of this asset flip is so low it doesn't really deserve any generousity. Ok, there's a few puzzles, but they're badly done, don't make a lot of sense, and don't fit with the story. But it's mostly just shooting the Unreal zombie assets. So, the game might look better than you'd expect from an amateur project, but this is because it's partially or completely made up of stock assets, "borrowed" from asset stores and free asset websites. Very little in this game is truly the creation of the "developer", it's just a bunch of rearranged assets. While there's no up front price for this asset flip, the other problem with asset flips is that when developers aren't capable of doing their job and creating high quality assets, it's also true they can't do any of the rest of the job of a game developer either. That's definitely true for "Frontline Heroes VR". It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. This game is fairly dated at 8 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $10 USD for this. Yeah... trying to get YOUR money for other people's Unreal assets. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Even as a free product, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of [b]only 3 users[/b], it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time with this. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "nope". While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher quality alternatives on Steam.
