Freshman Year is a vignette game about an ordinary night in the life a college freshman named Nina. Nina's best friend Jenna invites her to meet up at a local bar with some classmates. Jenna is sort of flaky though, so Nina has to navigate the party by herself.

Game sucks bro 0/10 too much water -IGN Ok but for real this was free and I'm going to need you to refund the five minutes or so I spent playing. Horrible way of conveying a message. It's literally a slideshow.
Tres minutos.
Summary
Very short vignette styled autobiographical visual novel on the developers experience with sexual abuse. Pros + Interesting Cons - Divisive
Overview
Freshman Year is a very short vignette styled autobiographical visual novel that is less of a game and is made more to tell the story of the developer with a bit of a lesson in it. You basically go through the whole thing in a very short time and it's presented like a comic book. The story revolves around Nina and her experience and effects from sexual abuse. There are choices you can take but they don't change the story as it's linear and already has a conclusion in mind. The story might resonate with some people while others might not see much in it. I think it's a good short that younger folks probably should experience to have an insight and to know what best to do and to understand those that have experienced it. A quick game, easily able to be completed in about 5mins. The art+music reminded me a little of Braid, even though the gameplay is entirely different. In my first playthrough I chose to text Jenna about the bouncer - and given the subject matter*, in hindsight it felt almost poetic that this was my choice. The game doesn't pretend to be anything except for what it is, and I found it enjoyable enough for the time spent on a couple of playthroughs. So I'm giving this one the thumbs-up. *Note: If the topic of sexual assault is distressing for you, feel free to give this one a miss.
Playing as Nina who doesn't carry her blue mug (very good) to Crawley's. This was what she depicts... with my obfuscations. Nina texts with her best friend about attending in Crawley's while they do remember having made some mistakes some time ago. Nina dons a bold look as she scroll across her laptop.
You do get two choices of outfit for Nina that don't affect the story.
Waiting wasn't that much of a burden since time passes very quickly in our favor, though Nina is portrayed a little bit unreliable with her rate of reply. At night, school children and college children run around Crawley's. [strike]Why are children running around Crawley's at night? They must be past their bedtime![/strike] Nina encounters a man
, threatening, of which that he's of some sort of shadiness. His name is Clark, and he might have a swollen right arm to understate. "He's really nice/friendly", but look what happens next
. And then she starts giving out her personal info to him.
Impatient minutes of waiting for Jenna with several Long Island Iced Teas drank later (my goodness, she's a heavy drinker), and her instincts lead her to re-visiting the same man who later pins her to a hallway or some opening, some floors out, with her stomach in a twist. Nina turns into a black ceramic clay set with the pottery turntable included (not seen). Bobbing for phones was unavailable because of that thing happening. Clark turns into an oily blob that tries to eat Nina's neck. [strike]Nina is not licorice, and Clark has terrible taste in food.[/strike] I'm so distraught that Nina never thought to carry her Long Island Iced Tea cups in her bag or her phone in his mouth. Instead, Jenna waves to Nina and the oily blob (formerly known as "Clark") and politely asks how Nina is doing. Nina opts to look calm so to not give further aggravation to the oil blob. Then Jenna and Nina hurry through a staircase (that I've lost orientation) so to reach out to a massive mirror while Jenna smarts her butt (with her trousers up, stupid) to the remaining drunkards. All that remains of Nina in the mirror, is her blue mug (very bad). The local church near Crawley's keep playing ambient music while Nina looks at her reflection with a trauma and look she has now presented to us. The police were never mentioned of in this story nor did Jenna even think to dial the police with the given plot points we've now faced. It's like Jenna is lazy enough to watch you suffer just at a dire point. Such a wretched denizen would watch the oil blob do such harsh activities and then call "gourmet" all about it! "Whadda' hell tho'. He can do this all year long without repercussion. He's so creepy that the bathtub tried to call a plumber for an unclogging, ooOOOooh~! Spare sympathy for the hand dryers", and then just struts about to please the drunks on the dance floor. Nina deserves to revoke Clark's carding privileges and send red ones in his mouth because soccer was a weak point in his career and we don't know his backstory either. And Jenna's got some skewed priorities that we can't comprehend... probably to write a grad essay on nightclub behavior. Who is Tyler? Clark unconsciously joins a culture?
And many a question will not be answered.

In all seriousness, Nina
can get some rest and better people that genuinely support her
. She's gone and went to a moment like some others. A short visual novel/vignette with little or lacking warning as to what kind of abuse it explicitly portrays. And without it, unwitting players/readers can be left shocked with the contexts they've read. Dialogue written so much in casual tones that the spook factor only hits at one point and no others. Also, hovering over dialogue choices don't give indication as to whether they're selected or not. Warning: this game contains a scenario with a crudely-animated physical abuse animation.
