I've tried playing this game on the openpandora. Time constraints limited me to finish playing the game. I was happy to find it on the steam store. A bit disappointed that it doesn't run on the steamdeck in native mode. I actually run the windows version :-(. The game is a tongue in cheek, No, the game is a realistic outlook on a dystopian future where Microsoft was left unchecked, and all good people got killed by an AI developed and installed on all robots controlled by Microsoft. It is a grim warning against unchecked corporate greed and proprietarisation of the intellect and unchecked lobbying (act 2). This game would be attractive for people above 40 that have witnessed all these things happening in the now. This game is a volunteer game. Don't expect it to be hours of fun. However, the game is set up pretty easily. It's game logic is totally in Lua, the savegames are in Lua (which makes fixing a savegame due to a bug easy), and the game logic engine seems to be easy enough to add some story lines and maps. So yeah, recommended for linux geeks, or greybeards, or those wanting to start writing games in Lua, or even just want to program in Lua and want to see how Lua makes the difference between code and data pretty vague, and let's you concolude it's about intelligent data, or datarich code.
"FreedroidRPG" is an unusual entry in the annals of gaming. It's a a free-to-play, open-source sci-fi role-playing game. The subject matter centers on a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a rebellion of robots. You're tasked with fighting hordes of enemy bots to save humanity, and of course being a "Linux" game, it's got Tux in it, because you know. Can't have a different theme from Tuxracer I guess, not allowed under the GPL I guess. There's a bit that says all games must have a penguin. Anyway, there's a lot of content, but this game is like over 20 years old and it shows (don't let the Steam release date fool you). What do you do in the game? Gameplay utilizes a real-time combat system similar to Diablo, featuring melee and ranged weapons. You can use programs to control enemies, modify their behavior, and enhance your character stats, which amusingly is done using a ripoff of the 1980's Commodore 64 game Paradroid's robot takeover minigame. Visually, this has some fairly mediocre/dated looking graphics (basically 2D isometric stuff) that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. Indeed, more than just free, this is fully open source, which is a tremendous and noble gesture. While the game itself might not be so great, we can't doubt the integrity of the developers. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.
buon gioco
I remember this from ages ago! So cool to see it on steam. Running great on my handheld.
FreedroidRPG, oyuncunun insanlığı merhamet bilmeyen asi botlardan kurtarmak için bot ordularına karşı savaştığı açık kaynaklı bir bilim kurgu rol yapma oyunudur.
Scariest game ever.
