I like what this game sets out to do, but I think it falls short in making the most out of being in 3D. Aside from some of the clues being in 3D space, which was a nice touch, the majority of the game could have been in 2D. There was very little need for the 3D element except for like the two puzzles I couldn't proceed on without a hint because I forgot to rotate around an object to find its secret. The problem is the game doesn't do a good enough job reminding the player of this mechanic. Most of the time when you get close up to something, it's static, which ingrained in me not to bother trying to angle the camera any other way. So it didn't even ping in my brain that I should attempt to rotate on the rare two occasions when it was actually necessary. The puzzles themselves were challenging but fair, which I enjoy in a game. This game studio knows how to craft puzzles, which is why I keep playing their games.

🧩Undecided & Puzzled Reviews🧩Visit and follow my curator page if you enjoyed this review❤️

Forgotten Hill The Third Axis
A point and click escape room with quite the horror elements. This seems to be a standalone story but still in the Forgotten Hill universe, a place you never want to find yourself in. Unless you're into that kind of thing, I don't judge. The first game in the series made in 3d since previous ones use a 2d surreal art style Oh, and it's free! Which is always a big plus. I started the series in the wrong order. I got Forgotten Hill: Mementoes first because it fit the games I like and it was on sale. After a little browsing through the dev's page, I found that I should've started with First Steps. I noticed The Third Axis was on the Forgotten Hill list but not exactly part of the main line story. So, I decided to play this one before diving into this universe and I am happy to report that I loved it. I'm almost done with First Steps too. Highly recommend the Steam Bundle that includes all the games since you will want to keep going. There is also a new game on the way you can Wishlist (link below). https://store.steampowered.com/app/2891870/Forgotten_Hill_The_Wardrobe/?curator_clanid=36052189 As I mentioned, I really liked this game. It's in 3D with a VR-esque vibe to it (camera movements and pov) although that didn't really sway my opinion. The art style is very similar to that of the 2d games and the escape room puzzles and aspect were really fun. The puzzles were of a normal or standard difficulty, nothing crazy. Controls are standard for a point and click. As far as story, it's there but not very detailed. The most important part - get out of there! Keep in mind that this is a horror game. Although it has no jump scares, it still has some blood/gore and creepies. As I mentioned, it's free and it will give you a peek into Forgotten Hill. Great way to check out if the series is for you. Nice
Forgotten Hill: The Third Axis — бесплатная хоррор‑адвенчура в жанре point‑and‑click с головоломками, часть серии Forgotten Hill.
[strike]Planet des[/strike] Haus des Affen
Forgotten Hill: The Third Axis, developed and published by FM Studio, represents a bold step forward for a series that has long relied on 2D point-and-click horror. This installment transitions into a fully 3D, first-person experience, attempting to deepen immersion while preserving the eerie identity that has defined the franchise. Rather than abandoning its roots, the game builds on them, retaining its focus on puzzle-solving and unsettling storytelling while reimagining how players interact with its disturbing world. You take on the role of an investigator tied to the enigmatic “Third Axis,” tasked with uncovering the truth behind a disappearance in the twisted setting of Forgotten Hill. The narrative unfolds in fragments, relying on environmental storytelling, cryptic notes, and bizarre encounters to slowly reveal its secrets. There is very little hand-holding; instead, the game trusts players to piece together its lore through observation and deduction. This approach works well in maintaining intrigue, as each new discovery feels like a step deeper into something unnatural and quietly menacing. The gameplay remains centered on exploration and puzzles, but the shift to 3D changes how these elements are experienced. Instead of static scenes, players now move freely through interconnected environments, examining objects from multiple angles and interacting with the world in a more direct way. The puzzles themselves are varied, ranging from logical challenges to more abstract riddles that require careful attention to detail. Many solutions are cleverly integrated into the environment, rewarding players who take the time to observe patterns and subtle clues. When the design clicks, it delivers genuinely satisfying moments of realization. However, the transition to a first-person perspective is not without its drawbacks. Movement and interaction can occasionally feel imprecise, with certain objects or hotspots requiring extra effort to engage with. This can interrupt the otherwise steady flow of puzzle-solving, especially in moments where clarity is essential. While these issues are not constant, they are noticeable enough to slightly detract from the overall experience, particularly for players accustomed to smoother navigation in similar games. Where the game truly excels is in its atmosphere. The world of Forgotten Hill has always been defined by its grotesque and unsettling aesthetic, and this installment amplifies that through its immersive perspective. Environments are filled with disturbing details, from warped architecture to unsettling character designs, all contributing to a pervasive sense of unease. The sound design enhances this further, using ambient noise and subtle audio cues to create tension even in moments of stillness. It’s not a game that relies on sudden scares, but rather one that maintains a constant, creeping discomfort. In terms of scope, the experience is relatively short, which can be both a strength and a limitation. The game maintains a focused pace, avoiding unnecessary filler, but it may leave players wanting a deeper or more expansive journey. Once the puzzles are solved, there is little incentive to revisit the game beyond appreciating its atmosphere again. Additionally, minor technical issues and occasional rough edges in presentation remind you of its indie origins, though they rarely overshadow the core experience. Ultimately, Forgotten Hill: The Third Axis succeeds in evolving the series while staying true to its identity. It delivers a compact but engaging horror puzzle experience that emphasizes mood, curiosity, and careful observation. While the shift to 3D introduces some imperfections, it also enhances immersion and gives the game a fresh perspective. For fans of atmospheric puzzle games, it offers a memorable journey into a strange and unsettling world, even if it doesn’t fully realize its potential in every aspect. Rating: 7/10
Wieder Ärger in Forgotten Hill: schon wieder... na dann Junge retten, Wolperding jagen und fette Wurzel sichern. Abendessen gesichert. Diesmal in 3D-Style
