The character has a very good British accent and a mind-blowing, insane amount of actions; the fight scenes are absolutely peak. Highly recommend this game 9.5/10.
I love final fantasy and bought this game in hopes of a good game, the upside it the story seemed to be good, but the hand holding is so extensive that I decided to run an experiment. I put on the rings it said for difficult fights on, and then set the controller down and did not touch it... Literally the character perfectly dodged every time and his compatriots fought the battle for him and... won. The game literally plays itself, no input is needed from the user... But that's not a game... I came for a game and found none... Not worth the money I paid for it. Auto item pick up, auto combat, and auto defense... that's not a game, that's a movie where you have to hold a joy stick down... I've actually seen better interactive movies on Netflix... So I lost all desire to play the non existent game. Why Is this a thing? no idea, but I wanted a game, not a movie with extra steps, so I'm out and can't recommend this to anyone. Could I ignore the rings? yes, but that tells me everything I need to know, the combat is not going to be challenging, and the game play is going to feel cheap and as if someone else is doing it for you. It's pathetic and done to please reviewers, not actual players.
The story is mediocre, the graphics are overhyped UE5-style crap with all the upscaling and frame generation options instead of proper optimization, and the combat system... oh boy, the combat system is uninspired trash with no player agency. This isn't a Final Fantasy, it's a Devil May Fantasy that does neither genre any justice. Just do yourself a favor and buy Clair Obscur instead. Square already admitted people prefer the old turn-based Final Fantasies instead of... whatever this abomination is, and are scrambling to create oldschool style FF-games again. So why would you grace them with your hard earned money for a mediocre, half-assed product when even they don't put trust in it? I thought it'd be hard to go any lower than FF15 and it's half-assed attempt to cater to the "open world survival" -trend, but Square always competently proves me wrong.
If I could leave an in the middle kind of rating I would, but unfortunately this game mostly feels like a waste of time and leans more towards something you'd probably want to skip instead of play. Now that's not to say there are no positive aspects of this game. It has an incredible soundtrack, good voice acting, and the boss fights certainly deliver in terms of spectacle. Despite all of that, this game falls short in every other regard. The combat grows tedious due to its lack of depth. There really are no other combat mechanics to play into besides just staggering the enemy. To make matters worse, lots of Clive's abilities are uninspired and just amount to big damage laser. The pacing is really bad. This game has a very weird habit of forcing you into a side quest whenever you reach a new town. It makes no sense and just bogs down the progression of the main story. These side quests also usually do very little to invest the player into the world. The gear progression in this game is absolutely ABYSMAL and it's partnered with the most shallow crafting system that has no place in this game. Every time you beat a boss, it drops a material. That material lets you craft your next sword. The only thing new or different about this sword from your last one is that it does 5 more damage. That is how things will be for the rest of the game. It is really unfortunate that this game is dragged down by all of these really stupid design decisions because at its core I think the characters and the story of this game are interesting and akin to classic Final Fantasy with the setting and concepts. However, that simply isn't enough to give up time and money for when considering the overall gameplay experience being offered here. Perhaps if the game is on sale and it looks REALLY appealing to you. However, if you're looking for a traditional Final Fantasy experience or a way to get into the series or even just a fun action game to throw yourself into, you're better off passing up this game.
Probably the best FF game I've ever played. One of the best single-player RPGs I've ever played as well, SPECIFICALLY from a story/lore perspective. The combat is **fine**. This is a cutscene simulator through and through, but if that's your jam then you'll love this. There's actually so much going on in the story and with all of the character development that it keeps the game moving very quickly. I think the devs realized if they dragged out any single encounter more than normal (like it feels with most games), the game would take hundreds of hours to complete. This keeps the game feeling fresh and not a chore. I put 30 hours into NieR:Automata and I was ready to be done with it at 30 hours, even though I enjoyed it immensely. It feels like I could put another 60 into FFXVI before I'd be ready to put it down, even though the combat is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I haven't finished the game at the time of this review. I don't expect any major decisions to be made on my part. It's literally a cutscene simulator with seemingly mindless tab-targeting button-mashing combat between each.
And thus... did our journey ends
Press L3 + R3 to accept the truth 7. DLC. В Echoes of the Fallen есть амулеты, которые облегчили прохождение на НГ+.
Forever.. my treasure, my star..."
I really want to love this game. It's gorgeous, the combat is flashy, and the Eikon battles are #epic. But every time something fun and exciting happens, it's followed by long stretches of fetch quests and repetitive side content that just kills the pacing. I've also never seen so many cutscenes in a game. I still want to finish it, but it's a drag. At least Clive is hot <3
After 96 Hours in my first playthrough. I Strongly suggest playing through it. This is not a Final Fantasy Game you want to rush through. Take your time. Don't binge the game or you will just fatigue yourself off track from the games deep story. 10/10 story. combat was a bit slow paced but after diving into the side quests. (also lots of deep story content in there as well.) you'll get a better combat experience. they got big shoes to fill for the next Final Fantasy. that's for sure.
Graphics are beautiful. Voice acting is decent. Plot and world are much more grounded and less whimsical than is typical for FF (though they go a little overboard with having everyone dying all the time); I haven't decided what I think about that, but they do a good job writing characters' dialogue and actions to match their reasonable motivations for the world that they're in. In that sense the world feels more thoughtfully self-consistent than any other mainline FF game. All in all, the non-core-gameplay fundamentals exceed expectations. The problem is it's a walking simulator with a shallow action-combat-minigame stapled to it: there is no meaningful skill expression and no challenge to be overcome. Best available weapons and gear at any given time are just made available without effort or tradeoff. Combat is all generic action-game 'press this button to close distance and hit, press this button with the right timing to perfect dodge' stuff; enemies who are supposed to be trained soldiers will hang back and maybe move in to take a feeble swing once every five seconds or so, like generic mooks in a Batman game. In the event you actually manage to lose to a boss, they'll just drop you back into the same phase of the same fight with replenished curative items; you just respawn with the boss already down to 25% health or whatever, so you don't have to improve or re-strategize or anything. In case that's not enough, combat-trivializing easy-mode-accessories are dropped into your inventory at the very beginning even when you choose the 'action-focused' mode, as though the game doesn't think its own combat is worth engaging with either. In other words, the gameplay part of the game is actually a complete formality, and the game seems apologetic for even interposing this quantum of gameplay between the endless series of cutscenes it actually wants to feed you. If they wanted to make a movie they should have just made a movie. A final fantasy game in which the entire *game* part is a challenge-free facade cannot be accepted. It's unfortunate, because there really are lots of cool features and work that have been done here in here; just the lore-navigation interface is a fascinating and innovative little thing, and I don't want to discount the work that was poured into various aspects of this title. But games need to have *gameplay*, and no amount of polish can make up for that omission.
