solid start for a game, but its unfinished and abandoned.
Abandoned game (last updated on June 2021), insufficient tutorial and clunky gameplay.
Fall of Civilization, developed and published by Luke Dodds in collaboration with Midnight Forge LTD, takes a less conventional route within the strategy genre by centering its entire experience on decline rather than expansion. Where most city-building or empire management games are driven by growth, prosperity, and dominance, this title deliberately shifts the focus toward survival under pressure and the slow unraveling of systems that once seemed stable. It’s a design philosophy that immediately sets the tone: success is never permanent, and stability is something you constantly struggle to maintain rather than achieve outright. The gameplay revolves around managing a fragile civilization through a web of interconnected systems, each influencing the others in subtle but often unforgiving ways. Resources must be carefully allocated, population needs must be met, and infrastructure must be maintained, all while external and internal pressures steadily increase. What makes the experience particularly engaging is how failure tends to cascade. A single oversight—such as a food shortage or neglected infrastructure—can ripple outward, triggering unrest, weakening productivity, and ultimately leading to broader collapse. This layered cause-and-effect structure gives the game a strong sense of realism, but it also means that recovery can be difficult once things begin to deteriorate. Rather than presenting clear win conditions, the game leans into the idea of endurance. Players are often left trying to delay the inevitable, stretching limited resources and making difficult trade-offs to keep their society functioning just a little longer. This creates a persistent tension that runs through the entire experience. Every decision feels consequential, not because it leads to immediate rewards, but because it might prevent—or accelerate—decline. It’s a slower, more contemplative style of gameplay that rewards patience and careful observation, though it can feel punishing for those who prefer more forgiving or clearly structured progression. The complexity of its systems is both a strength and a weakness. On one hand, the depth allows for meaningful decision-making and emergent scenarios where players must adapt to unexpected challenges. On the other hand, the game does not always communicate its mechanics clearly. Information is often presented in dense menus and interfaces that can be difficult to parse, especially for new players. As a result, much of the learning process comes through experimentation and, at times, failure. This steep learning curve may deter some players, but those willing to invest the time will find a system that gradually reveals its logic. Visually, Fall of Civilization adopts a utilitarian approach that emphasizes function over flair. The interface is packed with data, and while it serves its purpose, it lacks the refinement and intuitive design seen in more polished titles. The environments themselves are modestly detailed, providing enough visual context to support the gameplay without becoming a focal point. Audio design is similarly restrained, offering ambient sounds and subtle cues that complement the experience without drawing attention away from the strategic elements. What ultimately defines the game is its thematic consistency. Every aspect of its design reinforces the central idea that civilizations are inherently fragile, shaped as much by their vulnerabilities as by their strengths. This focus gives the experience a unique identity, setting it apart from more traditional strategy titles. However, the same qualities that make it distinctive—its deliberate pacing, unforgiving systems, and minimal guidance—also make it less accessible. It’s a game that demands engagement and resilience from the player, mirroring the very struggles it depicts. In the end, Fall of Civilization offers a thoughtful and somewhat sobering take on the strategy genre, trading spectacle and expansion for introspection and survival. It may not appeal to everyone, particularly those looking for a more straightforward or polished experience, but it provides a compelling challenge for players interested in complex systems and the idea of managing decline rather than simply chasing growth. Rating: 6/10

Control a faction of people that survived the world ending events which left most the world scarred and barren.
It's the fall of something alright...
