3 hours to beat the true final boss... after the RNG to unlock it. Fun deck building game with Touhou's fairies and a lot of Alice's dolls for some reason. It's a major improvement over the previous game Fairy Card Rogue. The fun part's figuring out a good deck to use to squash your opponent with, because the game is not balanced at all. Using multiple
Remilia
cards in particular is almost cheating; her healing ability triggers before the enemy's attack and raises both her and your Max HP, so the effect snowballs as turns go on, and then you can use Eirin's cards to give omega heals to yourself, and before you know it suddenly you have 3x the HP you started the fight with and it's impossible for the enemy to win. Online play is simply against others' decks, not actual players afaik. The music goes surprisingly hard, too. Only big issue is that the Clownpiece fight is bugged; not only does the instakill softlock the game if everyone dies from it, even if you use the trick I described above to survive it by having high enough HP, it still softlocks. This still hasn't been fixed.
Get your card gaming fix without rolling any gacha! Great music too. My only complaint is that I would prefer to be able to play with just my keyboard.
You know. It is very fun for 5 hours which is a pretty fine deal if you think of it as $1 per hour. So, a few points in no particular order. There is no PvP, you fight bots and there is a basic leaderboard that tracks wins. It's not very elaborate so if you were hoping for competition, which is fair, its the main draw of card games. Unfortunately this isn't that type of game. The real charm of this game is building your deck alongside the campaign. You start with a starter deck, and as you progress you get money, money that you can use to craft cards. I'd almost call it a deck building rpg, but Yu-Gi-Oh the Sacred Cards this is not. Gameplay loop is heavily inspired by mobile game models. You click a battle from a list of missions do that battle. You get some character dialogue, rewards, and then it boots you back to that mission list. As much as I'd like a world to explore and npcs to fight and talk to. It doesn't make what's here bad. $5 indie game, this is perfectly serviceable. So how's the game itself? Well it's pretty simple, you have 10 life and 2 resources you have to balance. Your cards in hand, and your Power Points (or just P) which is this game's version of mana. Normally in card games you get 1 of each of these resources at the start of your turn. But in FCB its cutthroat, you can only choose one or the other. To make up for this, you get 2 P/cards and 3 starting at turn 5 and onward instead of 1. Get too much of one, and you start starving for the other. And most of my fun was figuring out how and when to be optimal both with my deck building and strategy. I do sorta wish there was more I could put this knowledge and skill towards however. Above the campaign and fighting bots, you start running out of content kinda fast. This game does have a sealed mode where you open 5 packs and 3 more over the course of 5 battles. And while this mode is good fun, it leaves more to be desired. Your deck is heavily strapped by the rng of your pulls. And although there is some strategy with deck building and decision making, you mostly just have to shrug your shoulders and use the best of what you pull. This problem would easily be addressed by having there be a draft mode. As that mode would be far more skillful and rewarding. To wrap up, this is a recommend but it certainly isn't perfect. There can be some UI bugs here and there and the final fight in the campaign's gimmick just softlocks the game. You can still beat it, but you need to build a deck that is very aggressive for damage and get a little lucky. This is a small indie project so I am willing to overlook it, especially because I had a lot of fun with it. It's just a fun little card game, my biggest gripe with it is that there isn't more of it. Which, is a relatively good problem to have I guess.
Sapphire Btw, Seal Battle has a bug, I've won 3 games in a row yet the achievement isn't unlocked, it reads 0 Battles / 0 Wins when I go to Seal Battle, while still have 3 perfect Seal Battle in my profile page.
