Escape Depths of Immanis is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. There's a few things going on in this platformer like wall destruction tower placement and so on... but like I said... there's 17,000 of these things and less than 0.01% of them are any good. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. On the topic of visuals, the weak looking 2D retro assets seem like they'd be more at home in a browser game or a mobile app. 3D graphics accelerators hit the mainstream of PC gaming in the mid 1990's with cards like the ATI Rage and Voodoo3D, there's no excuse for such poor 2D graphics in 2025. That alone is enough to disqualify this for recommendation. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lot less work. As a result of this poor decision, the game gets tired and repetitive almost immediately. Developers must learn that procgen is a terrible substitute for creating real content. It should not be used as "ez-mode" for content creation, as the developer tried to do here. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 10 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

WELL ITS NOT A BAD GAME, QUITE DECENT AND CHALLENGING IN MY OPINION STRUGGLING FOR AMMO ISSUE\
Felky Fun Meter

|-------|---| [7/10] Pretty fun!
The concept of mining/upgrading in between waves of enemies and managing time/resources will never be not fun to me and this game does it very well. The game isn't perfect; the mining sometimes bugs and you get stuck glued to a rock; the controls are a bit odd and definitely give the "mobile game" vibe; some upgrades are overpowered compared to others
getting Charlie is a free win XD
; enemy variety is a bit on the lower side.. My only real complain is that you cannot stop shooting when a wave of enemy is attacking. It becomes very frustrating because unlike other games like this there is an ammo count and you constantly need to get lucky to mine the right ore to refill it. So it does really feel like garbage to have 1 last enemy on the screen and see 6 cannons shoot at once wasting ammunition and overkill it when it's such an important resource, and that's the reason why I didn't feel like playing this game for longer than I did. BESIDE THIS overall this is a good fun game that has a lot to offer; weapon types, upgrades, modules, even some meta-progression. So if you're curious give it a try :D
This game is truly engaging! After multiple attempts, I finally reached 99% yesterday, but I forgot to repair my shield and ran out of ammo… so I died. :/ Buuuuut today, I finally completed it :D I faced the boss at wave 22, and it was an epic battle (i almost died again :)) )! I really enjoyed playing this game, and for sure, I'll play it again!
This game is so fun. Balancing the mining. upgrades, and wave management. Plus different weapon selection is so awesome.
