ENDLIGHT is an example of how a developer can pour all of their love, hard work, and dedication into a game that still isn't good. Don't get me wrong -- there is a good game in here. It's genuinely funny. It's genuinely innovative. And it's genuinely fun. The problem is, the game gets in its own way a little bit too much. It's the sort of game that I have no doubt was playtested extensively, and yet didn't see the kinds of significant changes that would have been required in order to really elevate the good parts together into a great game. Instead, we have moments of good game punctuated and obscured (sometimes literally) by interruptions to the flow of the experience. I won't spend too much time getting into everything, since frankly I could probably write a 10-page paper about everything this game does right and wrong, but let's just say that this game has been incredibly eye-opening to me about how effort, technical skill, and love on the part of the designer don't necessarily translate into a cohesive, quality experience. Anyways, despite all that, I still recommend this game. Why? Because not everything worth playing is perfect, or even, well, good. My experience with ENDLIGHT has been positive despite the faults, because I've enjoyed the experience and I've been able to appreciate the parts of it that do work. Unfortunately, I don't think this will ever become a successful game to the average player, because while I can see a world in which an ENDLIGHT-like does break through and become a hit, it would require a lot of extensive tweaks to the formula that might end up making it a completely different game by the end. That being said, if you've ever considered yourself a harbinger of failure, or perhaps just an optimist more willing to overlook faults than the average person, then you'll probably consider playing ENDLIGHT to be a positive experience, like I have. Just make sure you choose a comfortable setting for the visuals.

When the dev says that this game is an assault on your senses, he's not kidding. Imagine Beat Saber but sped up, constantly smashing through the walls and with EXPLOSIONS and LIGHT EFFECTS and MORE EXPLOSIONS constantly, right in your face as if a small, hyperactive, child version of Michael Bay wanted to show you his new supercool superfast special effects. Are you picturing it ? Good. This thing would be TAME compared to Endlight. You've never played anything like it. It's fun, it's original, it's made with love, and it's cheap. Live a little, treat yourself.
you know even though being very trippy, this game is so cool, every time i quit it says "i will always love you" it is also pretty cool that it does not have levels it has episodes.
Just wanted to let you all know that this game caused me to sit up in bed with my Steam Deck in that way that makes an older person's lumbar region hurt for several hours; my eyes dried to a powder from not blinking. 10/10, will do again. NOTE: something a little weird with how my playtime is being calculated between various machines, but I assure you that I have the permanent health issues that accompany such anecdotes. Thanks, dev.
I found out about this from a PC Gamer article about the free DLC seasons you had my interest, and then I watched the trailer and you had my attention. And playing the game. I am. I think this might be the first post-modern piece of art I've seen a videogame, like, successfully do? It's ... amazing. Bedazzling. Enticing. Devouring. Having the menu options read out to you and what they do is absolutely inspired. The absolute chaos of the visuals and it being kind of a struggle to understand, visually, what is even happening. Gosh I just like what
A unique game that is worth the entry price. There isn't much like it. But, it evokes memories of Antichamber, Star-Fox, and Rez. The joy of this game does really not come from a flat description of it. Each level boils down to "look at this cool shader I made" and you are forbidden from replaying a level you finished. (unless you do the to be shown, humorous, dec 9th challenge). It looks incredible and runs great. The humor capitalizes on the pacing. I think this is a game really anyone can play. Yet this will not be easy to stream..... I recommend this little gem. The only complaint I can think of is that I have no idea how to tell the difference between rebound and boost hoops. It's simplistic but takes advantage of that to a full, refined capacity.
Rez-like game
It's a flight game with a beautiful screen similar to Rez Infinite. It's an On-Rails Shooter like Star Fox, but with some major differences. Instead of attacking with a gun, attack by ramming. There are no enemies, but instead there are a lot of cubes that act as obstacles. Many walls will appear one after another in the direction of your progress, but you must choose whether to destroy them by ramming them or avoid them. This is a roguelike game where levels are automatically generated. It can be said to be an atmospheric game where you can admire the scenery colored by beautiful visuals. It would be suitable for people who:

Someone want to watch natural phenomena such as pouring rain, falling powder snow, bonfires, and fireworks.
Someone want to look at the scenery where a huge number of geometric polygons are piled up.
Someone want to fly around in a cyber space filled with fractal geometrical arrangements.
Someone looking for a strange experience, like getting lost in a kaleidoscope filled with shapes to the very edge of the horizon.
Rather than a game, it looks like a painting-like video work automatically generated by AI.
For example, it can be described as a psychedelic visual similar to the Mandelbrot set.
People who are interested in videos of electronic drugs that have never been seen before.
The world that Rez believers have been pursuing may exist in Endlight.
By the way, developer seems to have created the visual effects based on Devil Daggers and Hyper Demon.
The game is a simple flight game where you search for and get rings hidden on the stage. However, due to the time limit, there is not much leeway. Therefore, there is a sense of tension as instantaneous decisions are always required. The control of the aircraft is unique and the rules are relatively complex, so it's quite busy. It's a simple game, but it's so satisfying that you'll be hooked on it.
Recommended settings
The graphics are key, so the appeal is halved if the graphics settings are not set to the highest. > ESC key > option screen > Main section -Reset Chaos > Exciting -Reset Graphics > Great / Slow > 5 sections (move the camera closer) -Camera Follow > 2.00 (increases difficulty) -FOV Inside > 60 - 80 (increases difficulty) > 2 Section (Difficulty) -Reset Difficulty > Easy Increasing the speed makes it more difficult, so after selecting Easy, increase the Speed -Speed > 1.30 - 2.00 (if increase it too much, difficulty will be terrible)
Rule

Collect the rings and destroy the wall to complete the stage.
If you hit the outer circumference of the ring and play it, it will slow down. Temporarily increases HP.
you are invincible when you walk through the ring. Recovers HP and increases speed.
When rings are piled up, you can hit the outer rings and get a chance to get many rings at once.
If there are obstacles around, you can go through the rings and chance to blow away the walls all at once.
If you get two rings at the same time, your speed will increase.
The screen becomes distorted when HP reaches maximum. Speed increases, but damage taken increases.
If you are delayed in getting the ring, your aircraft will blink, turn black, and wither. Eventually, life will end.
HP decreases when you hit a cube. If you hit multiple cubes at once, you can destroy the wall.
If you continue to destroy the walls, a big bang will occur. Destroy and clear the surrounding walls.
If you fail the mission a total of 8 times, the game will be forced to close. Retries are not allowed as a penalty. You will be skipped to the next stage.
There is an optimal solution route with many rings, so try to find it.
If you deviate from the optimal solution route or go far from the center, it will get worse.

System

Can be played with one hand using a mouse.
If you find it difficult, you can freely change the difficulty level in the settings.
You can make it more difficult, but it may also make it impossible to complete.
There are 500 levels in total. It takes 30 hours just to go around it. You can play forever.
Once you play and complete the last level, you will never be able to play Endlight again.
Once you complete the game, you will not be able to play the game again. However, if you get a replay ticket, you can play game again.
With the update on December 9, 2024, a final trial will be distributed for that day only. If you complete it, you will receive a replay ticket.
Apparently it took 10 years to make.
It's really hard to write a review of this game. It manages to be very intentional art while seeming largely random on the surface. People seem to be really caught up on only being able to replay the game by completing the yearly Right to Replay challenge, but I'm over an hour and a half in and have only completed two seasons of the current 16 (with 4 more still coming), so I don't feel that's truly an issue. Game design is an art, and this choice is part of the design. It's a beautiful game. I will be playing through every season over time, and I'm very interested to see how it truly ends.
Did you enjoy Space Giraffe? Then you should probably get this. Play with the mouse, turn the chaos to max.
