so i really try to like the game, but this wheel menu on foot must be a bad joke. you can't seriously tell me, that this can go through QA and nobody says anything? my girlfriend literally just refunded the game, because it's impossible for her to choose any item from the wheel in the tutorial (first impressions matter you know?)
i had a awful time. i couldnt figure anything out i spent 4 of the 5 hours watching videos on how to play and the rest was looking in circles to find my marker then over shooting my destination 74 times. the frustration was unreal lol why cant you add a side indicator for a marked target? the hyperdive assist or whatever was nice but it went away and i have no idea why because nothing is explained. i may try this game again later but right now im taking a break for my monitors sake.
I love this game.... I want to love it so much... and parts of it I do. But... it's also one of the most frustrating gaming experiences I've ever had.
And I played Rust guys.
1. If the other comments make you think it's a bit grindy... think 100x of what you thought. 2. Horrible optimization. In stations, sometimes you get a semi-permanent FPS reduction from a stable 60 to 10 (YES, TEN) until you quit to menu and go back in. This happens about once every 2 hours. 3. The worst anti-aliasing you've ever seen in a game. I'm fairly convinced none of them actually do anything, and the game seems to render at a lower-than-native resolution too. 4. The game is pay to win. Don't listen to anyone telling you it isn't. If you're planning to play online (not solo), you will be ganked and instantly blown to pieces. Which is why barely anyone plays online now. It's only griefers and whales out there now... 5. The in-game UI, galaxy map, and generally information when you're trying to find anything is completely and utterly useless. Prepare to use third party tools, another 2 monitors worth of third party tools in fact. And even then, the bugs of the UI itself will frustrate you to no end. Like setting a target for your jump or targeting a settlement on the planet, which sometimes work, sometimes don't, other times they actually worked but the UI doesn't update, etc. 6. The on foot section of the game (Odyssey DLC) almost made me rage quit and uninstall 3 times in the last 2 days. In short: - Even more unoptimized than stations from inside your ship, you can go as low as 5 FPS! In the middle of combat or just getting close to a settlement... - When you inevitably need to quit to menu or just head back to the nearest station to resupply, all your settlement raiding progress is reset, so you start over from 0. - Completely unbalanced. You can't actually comfortably start this content. It'll feel like bathing with sandpaper for days or even weeks, because the stuff you can buy at the beginning can't even kill the most basic NPCs, and they can kill you in seconds. You're required to resort to basically cheesing and exploiting your way until you get better stuff. - It's a completely separate section of the game. Economically speaking there's minimal cross-play between on-foot and ship gameplay. The game has like 10 different types of materials to waste your time at this point, ~4 types of materials used in ship related stuff, ~4 used in on-foot related stuff, ~1 used in egineering and ~1 used in building stuff... whatever, you get the picture. You can't achieve any progress in on-foot stuff by using your ship, or vice-versa. - I don't think any game has ever made me question if the developers have played a videogame before more... - And the saddest part? On foot gameplay seems to be their new focus, but without fixing anything. I could just go on and on.... I'm just so disappointed. Most of the ship content is sooo good.
complete trash. original game was fun. odyssy is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Game is boring af
The game is great but dealing with the Frontier fire walls is a pai n in the backside big enough to make you turn elsewhere for game play.
Tldr: dont buy this game. it used to be decent they ruined it. Frontier website doesn't accept Gmail (hotmail worked). Creating ur account will likely put you over the return window. Excluding the one free option all ships cost premium currency (arx), you can farm it in game but you'll get about 100 per hour & all ships cost more than 10k. Base game will send you to dlc only planets for missions (it'll let you get all the way there then stop you shortly after breaking atmosphere. Played well enough on my steam deck, killer on the battery. I wanted to recommend a different space sim that resembles this one during its glory days but thats not allowed so I'll just say, there are thousands of space sim's out there & this one deserves a spot near the bottom of the list.
I hate having to sign into another third party to play a game. its a no from me dawg
Presentation: 8/10 Systems: 3/10 Fun: 7/10 Playability: 2/10 Would be a great game if it wasn't working so hard against itself. The problem is that you have to spend frustration as a currency to unlock the fun, and the frustration accounts for the vast majority of the time you spend in game while the fun seems like it's always on the horizon, perpetually out of reach.
