A great narrative and a smooth transition from Inquisition. The game is easy to get into, and the dialogue is quite good. You genuinely grow attached to the characters and empathize with their personal stories. There are also plenty of nice interactions with characters throughout the world, which makes it feel more alive. The combat is solid as well. After 90 hours, it still hasn’t gotten boring. In Inquisition, which I spent around 170 hours playing, I eventually found myself wanting to finish the game as quickly as possible because I was getting somewhat overwhelmed by the repetitive nature of it toward the end. I never had that feeling here. There was no sense of grind, and the game stayed enjoyable all the way through. Overall, a wonderful game that left me with a very pleasant aftertaste. It’s bittersweet to finish it knowing that this is the last game in the series.
I've already played through the whole game two times on Xbox. All the hate is either culture war cringe or people who dislike this game for not being an RPG. The latter I can understand, I too think it should have been promoted as a spin off in the same universe and not a main series Dragon Age game. Something like calling it "Veilguard - A Dragon Age Story". That would have prevented the second kind of people from hating it as much, I think. The culture war snowflakes will clutch their pearls anyway if there's options to change pronouns or something like that, because that makes their little minds sad. That out of the way: This is a very very polished and extremely fun action adventure in the vein of games like Fable and Kingdoms of Amalur, which are both in my "favourite games of all time" collection. It's not very RPG-ish, also the cartoony style and overexaggerated characters may not be for everyone. For me, this is a 9/10 and I'm on my third full playthrough now.
game has it's flaws but i enjoyed it and keep replaying it. the combat is fun and i do like the companions. sure it has weak points but to me those weak points don't weigh that heavily on the playability.
The game was a bit different than the other Dragon Age games in that it felt more modern in it's social issues. It had enough background and previous game references to tie it to the other titles but the tone, gameplay mechanics and characters made it feel as if it were separate. The game is good for what it is and could probably be done as a standalone to the franchise without feeling as if one were missing anything important. The characters and codex provide enough dialogue and information to catch a person up to the previous events. I enjoyed the game and the many different backgrounds and characters I could create.
I’ve finished every game in the *Dragon Age* saga, so I can confidently say that this game isn't a *Dragon Age* title. It’s a medieval *Mass Effect*... and not one of the good ones from the original trilogy, either. It’s more like a medieval *Mass Effect: Andromeda*... That said, it’s not so bad of a game; it’s mildly entertaining.
