Don't Be Afraid - The First Toy is a short but pretty good horror adventure game, but what is the story. A young boy named Jamia wakes up in a strange basement like room where he meets a man called Mr Franklin, he tells him he has plans for him, but the young boy plans on not sticking around as he must escape this psycho and his strange home and the horrors lurking in it. Now likes, the story is good, it’s your simple you must escape a psycho while wandering around his creepy home, also since this is a prequel to a game called Don't Be Afraid it gives plenty of indications through notes and visuals that there is more going on than what meets the eye. The gameplay is good, at first it’s your simple walk around and solve light puzzles, but what makes this gameplay stand out is the fact that it can mess with you, basically if you go into a room and you have looked through it all and go to another room or solve a puzzle you'll hear a noise and turning around you will see that everything's changed, like mannequins appearing or a new room appears in the previous room you went too. That’s a pretty interesting andclassic concept in horror games and I can only name three games that did that Resident Evil 8, Condemned and Nightmare House 2. The graphics are good for this type of game with a good use of colors and details that really make the place stand out and look spooky. The level is good the basement definitely feels like something a serial killer would have with his previous victims all over the place and combine that with the mannequins kind of reminds me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets The Hills Have Eyes. The music is good it fits with this game quite well. The voice acting is very good the guy who plays the serial killer Mr Franklin does a good job in betraying a believable maniac. The atmosphere is good and spooky; you'll definitely jump when you're playing it for the first time. Now is the game scary yes a little bit for first time players, but once you play a few more times you won't be scared. Now dislikes, maybe it's just me but the game can hide certain items hides it a little too well and you'll definitely be looking for it a bit. Alrighty then Don't Be Afraid - The First Toy is a short but pretty good horror adventure game, with a good story, good gameplay and good level. So I recommend it since it's free and I may pick up the other two Don't Be Afraid games to see what they do with a bigger budget and longer gameplay.

5.2 I played this after the full game of "Don't be Afraid" to see if it was just like the first level or so, It is but it isn't. I'm assuming it's an earlier build of the first and second level with some differences. This one does lean into a little more of a 'jumpscare' nature with a lot of the spooks being turning around and having a mannequin suddenly in your face. That isn't bad per se but it is interesting that the main game doesn't really feature that to this extend, some mannequins and such move when you aren't looking sure, but this has them directly behind and close etc. The puzzles ARE a little different on the whole, similar but different. So even after playing the main game roughly 4 times which was still at least a somewhat fresh experience. Kind of just 'more of the game' I guess. It does feature a different MC which is also part of the narrative in the main game too, so also nice of it to add a little bit of context there. A noticeable difference being the voice acting, I don't really think that the original Franklin is bad by any means but the main game's VA brought a whole lot of character to the character which changes it quite drastically, both positive and negative personally.
