I recently discovered DG KS Edition. I have over 10 hours into it and am having a good time. This is a worthy successor to MOO. I am sorry I missed the Kick Starter. The current state of the game is quite advanced and in a better place than many of the Early Access games I have tried. If the developer makes payment possible, I will gladly contribute.

I have never played Master of Orion before so I don't know how much are these two games similiar but to me this feels like really good combination of parts of Stellaris and Galactic Civilization. I love almost everything about this game. But I do have few problems with it. First is the ship designer. Creating my own designs feel really good but I would love if I could change existing designs and just upgrade the ships. For me scraping a fleet of old ships and bulding a whole new fleet just feels weird. Better combat tutorial/tooltips. I wonder why my weapons do no damage. why all my shots get absorbed. Maybe I am just bad and the game and don't know how to play it but even if I use ships with newest tech I often can't do anything and just lose battle. Another thing that often happens to me is that I have a big fleet (like 3 cruisers, 10 destroyers, 50 frigates) of ships with mostly newest tech I have and that fleet loses against three destroyers? like what? I thought that my enemy just have a lot better tech than me but when I opened stats tab it said they have like half of tech I do. In conclusion of last two problems I think a good tutorial would help a lot. Even though it have some problems I think it is a really great game and I am excited for new updates. Good job.
Feel is very much like the old Masters of Orion 1 and 2. Took a few games to be able to stand up to the computer player (for me anyhow) Key of course is start as many colonies as you can while they are neutral and develop like mad then make warships that have the most weapons while having a high DR (defensive shield). Then make a bunch of them and go to war. Use chokepoints as much as possible. Play in teams with other AI players and you can see how they develop. Wish you could trade technologies with your allies! Anyhow I put quite a few hours in a few weeks and had a lot of fun. I did not find any bugs. This has been in development for a long time, and I hope it is still in progress.
This game is not finished yet. But it has absorbed a lot of hours of my time, and will probably absorb more in the future. Even if it never gets another update, it would be worth paying for. It's a very well-done variation on the theme of MoO2 (or perhaps MoO1, I never played that). There are significant differences, many of which make for a better game experience, including a bunch of QoL improvements. A few things are missing (Antarans!), a few are equally poor (spying), some are pretty different. Overall, it feels like it's own game, while retaining that wonderful feeling we got from MoO2. If you want to mess with it, the game has vast amounts of moddability, by editing the text data files that drive it. Highly recommended for anyone who has any interest in 4X games, especially SF types.
Enemy ships can take out my missile bases with ease but it takes me a giant fleet to take out theirs. This game is weak. Too simple and not balanced.
Very fun
Just found this game. I wish I'd seen the Kickstarter. The original Master of Orion is one of my favorite games of all time. This is a better successor than any of the official sequels. I wish he'd been able to finish it, but it's very playable the way it is. Mostly seems to be missing some graphics for the various races and a variety of ship graphics is all. Game play is great. Has some really fun new techs to put on ships, plus the old standby's from the original MOO.
An honest attempt to recover the feel of Master of Orion 2. There is even a stylistic similarity to the video cuts : -) There are new aspects to it too -- a mild research tree randomisation, ship design is done in an interesting way, a QoL attempt at reducing repetitive actions into more strategic decisions. I'm sure I missed some..
